The importance of good quality, restful sleep

Living a healthy lifestyle normally conjures up thoughts of a eating a good, varied diet and doing regular exercise, but did you know that it also involves getting enough restful sleep.

Restful sleep can be a challenge, especially with young children in the family, but there are ways that you can ensure the amount of sleep you get leaves you feeling refreshed and relaxed.

Invest in the right mattress

No two people are the same, and there is no such thing as a one-size-fits-all mattress, so it is important that you find a mattress to suit you and your partner.

It is recommended that you replace your mattress every 7-10 years, depending on comfort and support and Bed Guru offer a wide range of carefully selected beds, mattresses, and headboards to make sure everyone has access to the perfect place to sleep. Keep Your Room Dark, Cool & Quiet

Having the correct environment for sleeping is essential to making sure that you have a deep and uninterrupted sleep. Sometimes making even the smallest of changes to your environment can have a huge impact on the quality of sleep your body receives, such as turning the heating down, keeping a window open to ensure a good circulation of air or keeping the room quiet.

How much sleep do we need?

The amount of sleep we need varies depending on our age, with newborn babies needing between 14-17 hours, preschoolers 10–13 hours, school age children 9-11 hours and teenagers 8-10 hours. By the time you have reached adulthood, this should have settled to between 7-9 hours.

Wind down before bed

With many of us leading much more stressful lives, it is important to wind down before bed.

Getting up and going to bed at the same time is key to good sleep, but find a routine that suits you. For us, we like to watch TV before bed, but some find that too stimulating, so perhaps read a book, or enjoy a warm bath.

Much as it is tempting, don’t take your mobile phone to bed with you. Social media won’t miss your input for a few hours!

Have A Good Exercise Routine

Regular exercise helps us have a better nights sleep and will also help you to feel less sleepy throughout the day. Even taking a brisk walk for around 10 minutes a day will help to give an improved quality to your sleep.

How do you ensure you get a good nights sleep?
