This week is National Picnic Week, which runs from 21st – 30th June 2019, with an aim to encourage people to take the ideal opportunity to get together over a picnic.
I have fond memories of going for a “picker nicker” with my Great Aunt and Uncle in the New Forest as a child and have passed that love onto my own children, as they love nothing more than setting up a picnic blanket at the beach or in the forest with some of their favourite tasty treats.
I find that the kids are better behaved when we are out enjoying the great outdoors and it is proven that getting some fresh air and sunlight is good for you, so having a picnic is a great way of persuading the kids to get outside.
Our favourite picnic activities
Activities can vary depending on your location, a picnic at the local park is certainly very different from one at the beach.
At the beach
Beach Olympics is great fun: build some sand hurdles and see how far you can leap, take part in a water relay and see who can fill up their moat the quickest, or just bury your nearest and dearest in the sand to see who can escape the fastest.
In the forest
Take a fishing net and a plastic bucket and fish for minnows, build a den or just take part in an epic stick battle.
In the park
Depending which park you visit, you could enjoy the play park, play a game of footy or for something a little more laid back, take along your travel games and challenge your nearest and dearest to the ultimate battle!
To celebrate National Picnic Week, I have the opportunity for one of my readers to win a travel game from John Adams, either Othello, Rummikub or Triominoes.
