Cinema trips are a real treat and we nothing more than sitting down for a couple of hours with oodles of popcorn and drinks and watching a movie.
Most kids films we see at the cinema are big budget, animated films, but when I saw that Cineworld was showing an independent and locally made film, I booked tickets to go and see it.
On their annual summer camp holiday, four misfit kids suspect that the park’s mascot has been murdered! But no-one believes them so they start to investigate… Who Killed Nelson Nutmeg?
Filmed in the popular Freshwater Beach Caravan Park in West Bay, Dorset, the film follows Billie, The Colonel, Woody, Shiv and Billie’s big brother Swindon as they go on an adventure.
Nelson Nutmeg – the lovable squirrel mascot of their seaside caravan park, is apparently thrown from the infamous red cliffs, made famous by Broadchurch, and immortalised upon a campfire.
The film took me back to children’s films I used to watch as a child – ones that follow the children and their adventures, rather than being adult led.
I was worried that the kids wouldn’t enjoy it as it wasn’t a big budget blockbuster that they are used to seeing at the cinema, but they LOVED it.
Isaac liked the mystery of trying to work out what happened to the squirrel and they all liked that it was the sort of adventure that they could have on holiday.
They also recognised where it was filmed and were excited by the fact that they had played on that beach.
Nelson Nutmeg is a feel good family film with plenty of plot twists and turns to keep even the adults guessing!!
Check out the Nelson Nutmeg website for a competition to win a family holiday to Freshwater Beach Holiday Park, where the movie was filmed.
Awww this sounds like a great film! It sounds very Enid Blyton-esque! The sort of adventures her “Famous Five” would have.
Good to know the kids enjoyed watching the movie. The cinema is a good treat.
Is it showing across the country or just in the local area? I didn’t notice it when I was looking at ‘what’s on’ at our local Cineworld. It’s the kind of film my two would like too x
Hi Tracy,
Tim from the Nelson Nutmeg gang here. This was just a local screening we did. But you can watch on line a few different ways – links on our website. We’d love to do more big screen showings but its hard to get the required numbers.
Aww what a fun idea for a film! My daughters would love following the adventures 🙂
Supporting indie films is so important (and I can’t deny I, I also love shouting out when I recognise a location!!)
This sounds like a fab film and wonderful to support local independent film makers. Will this be shown nationwide with cineworld?
This looks like something my children would love, my daughter, is always finding similar things to watch on Netflix
This looks like such a fun family movie – I will have to keep an eye out for it!
Awww it looks like a fab little family film!
Oh this sounds fab! I think all three of my big kids would LOVE it!
Oh this looks like the kind of movie we would really enjoy. I love this kind of thing, its something both adults and kids could enjoy!
We have only took little J the cinema once and he’s 6. We really need to take him more.
I’d not heard of this film before but I think it’s something Oscar would really enjoy 🙂

This looks and sounds like a fab film and great that a company like Cineworld are showing it! I know my kids would love a film that was made locally and spotted places they know etc! It sounds like a great watch for the whole family.
I’m so glad that you all enjoyed it and even more glad that other people want to watch it too!
