The way we watch TV has changed in recent years and although we were late to the Netflix revolution, we have now fully embraced it in this house.
It is not unusual for us to binge watch entire series in a couple of weeks and we have found some brilliant ones to watch recently.
On Amazon Prime
New Amsterdam
We were first introduced to actor Ryan Eggold when he played Tom Keen on Blacklist and the show also stars Freema Agyeman, (Martha Jones, Dr Who), so when I saw this advertised I really wanted to see it.
New Amsterdam is an American medical drama television series, based on the book Twelve Patients: Life and Death at Bellevue Hospital by Eric Manheimer and we both loved the show.
The show follows Max Goodwin as the new Medical Director of New Amsterdam Hospital whose key phrase is “How can I help?” when asking his colleagues what needs to change in the hospital. In his first episode he sacks the entire cardiology team!!
It is a good mix of medical drama and the personal lives of its six key cast and I cannot wait for series two.
On Netflix
Dirty John
Dirty John is based on a true crime podcast based on the life of John Meehan, a con artist and sociopath and stars Connie Britton and Eric Bana.
Debra Newell has a perfect life — from the outside — she’s successful, beautiful and lives in Newport Beach, one of California’s most desirable coastal cities. The only thing missing from her life is love, so when she meets the charismatic, handsome and charming Dr. John Meehan, she is swept off her feet in a whirlwind romance.
Her daughters, Terra and Veronica, set out to prove that he’s just a conman after they are displeased at the fast-tracked relationship and decide to investigate their mother’s new beau for themselves. As Debra gets drawn deeper into his lies, the psychological manipulation has consequences for the entire family.
The first six episodes are based on the story of Debra and her family, but I loved the twist in episode 7 which shows just how far John has gone to manipulate the family.
I won’t give the ending away, but it has been renewed for another season!!
BBC iPlayer
Line of Duty
Yes, we are a bit late to the party on Line of Duty, but now is the time to binge watch series 1-4 before series 5 airs later this year.
This British Police corruption drama first aired in 2012 and starred another of our favourite actors, Lennie James (Walking Dead).
Line Of Duty follows controversial anti-corruption unit AC-12, operating within West Midlands Police Force and led by DSI Ted Hastings.
The main core of the cast remains the same, but each series is stand-alone with some brilliant actors brought into it including Neil Morrissey and Thandie Newton – each series is well worth watching!!
NOW TV
Games of Thrones
The new series of Game of Thrones launches on 14th April, so now is the time to re-watch the previous 7 series so you are up to speed on the goings on in Westeros.
I cannot even begin to even summarise the first fabulous 7 series, but safe to say it is one we could not put down and cannot wait for series 8 to begin!!
Happy watching!!
Dirty John was brilliant! I was hooked. I didn’t know the story when I started watching so the end was a bit of a shock.
I am rewatching Game of Thrones at the minute. I’m halfway through the 5th series so I’ll be all ready for season 8 x
I loved Dirty John and Line of Duty! I’m watching Afterlife at the moment and love how easy it is to watch!
We enjoyed Condor which aired in the New Year.
Will look at this, thank you 🙂
OMG I’ve started watching New Amsterdam and I’m hooked! I really love medical shows, moreso now that I work closely with the NHS 🙂
I loved Dirty John, brilliant show! We’re just about to start watching New Amsterdam after my friend recommended it.
I need to re-watch the last few episodes of game of thrones before the new season starts so I can refresh myself x
We have seen Dirty John. Love the series.
I love the sound of Dirty John, I’ll have to add it to my favourites.
We have recently binge watched Dirty John and You. Omg they were both amazing.
Oh my gosh, I watched the documentary version of Dirty John, it had me shocked all the way through, I don’t know how he got away with it for so long! I wondered all the way through how it was going to end.
