I am always on the look out for ways to save money on days out, as entertaining the kids can be an expensive hobby.
I use my loyalty reward cards regularly on our supermarket shopping and fuel which adds up to a tidy sum by the end of the year, but did you know there is another way of saving for fun days out for the kids?
Collect Avios
If you haven’t heard about Avios, it’s the reward currency that you can collect and spend on flights and experiences. You can collect Avios when booking cash flights with airlines, such as British Airways, Aer Lingus, Vueling and Flybe. The Avios you collect can then be spent on travel rewards including being put towards flights, hotels and car hire, as well as for days out and leisure experiences.
I always thought you could only collect Avios points by flying, however I have since discovered that you can collect Avios throughout the year by shopping with your favourite online retailers via the British Airways Avios eStore, exchanging your Tesco Clubcard vouchers, or registering your bank cards to collect Avios when shopping in store.
Sign-up is free and you also can collect Avios whenever you or the family fly with British Airways and their other partner airlines.
I have to admit I prefer to shop online to take advantage of cashback sites but I love that you can register your cards to automatically collect points in their partner stores, such as Caffe Nero, Heal’s, Oliver Bonas and Prezzo, and by shopping as you would normally in store, you automatically collect Avios.
It is surprising how quickly your Avios balance grows and you will soon have saved enough to spend and enjoy some family fun with the children. With a wide range of entertainment, attractions, and memberships to choose from, I’ve selected a few different family-friendly ways you can spend your Avios to give you some inspiration. All of these experiences are available if you have a British Airways Executive Account, so plenty of ways to enjoy them!

Do you collect Avios points?
Disclaimer: Post written in collaboration with Avios
I never knew you could collect point online, I just thought it was on flights. Might have to look into this.
This sounds like a great way to treat the family, especially to pricy places like London Zoo!
It’s worth taking part in savings schemes like this. I’ve got some Avios points that I should dust off and spend – one of these might be the way.
I am so glad I have stumbled accross this, I have my avios page however don’t use it much, I am literally about to book a flybe flight, I will see if I can get back into my account as I didnt realise you can use them for so many amazing experiences!
Ohh now I have to admit I haven’t heard of Avois points before, I am definitely going to have to look into it as anything you can spend on a nice day out is a good thing to me!
I’m not registered with any flight loyalty schemes but I really should look into it, as I travel quite regularly
I collect Avois points through my American Express card and for my I use it to pay for flights as it means I have a free trip x
Avios points are brilliant, I had no idea you could use them at Kidzania, my kids are desperate to go back there.
I always forget about Avios points so thanks for the reminder – I didn’t know that you could collect with certain retailers though, thanks for the tip!
I had no idea you could collect them and use them in so many ways! Thanks for opening my eyes to this, I am sure we have a load somewhere! 😀
Never heard of Avios before, but already in love with it! I went through the comments and I see that some people get free trips when they collect loads of points. Awesome!
PS I totally agree- entertaining kids is an expesive hobby 🙂
What a fantastic scheme – anyway to save money is a winner with me! I can’t wait until my children are old enough to visit Kidzania 🙂
I thought you could only collect the points on flights only too. Great that you can collect them online too.
I have never heard of this, but I am definitely signing up as it sounds awesome.
We’ve flown with Flybe a couple of times but didn’t realise you could collect Avios points. Sounds like a great scheme x
I never really knew much about Avios points but it seems like you can earn them and spent them in lots of places, I’ll have to look more into it, thank you!
I need to start collecting these points. So many things to do with them.
I haven’t collected points through Avios before but I have used other websites, I’m so bad at remembering to go via the websites though so it’s great that you can get your points in the sister stores
I’ve heard of Avios but assumed it had to be with flying – which I do none of these days – unfortunately. Didn’t realise you could put your Tesco clubcard points towards it.
I’ve signed up to avios but never seen anywhere to collect points. These are great places to use the points though!
To be honest I always thought it was mostly for Americans, how weird is that. Thanks for the introduction as I travel a lot this will come in handy
I never knew you could save points for such fun days out! I would love to go to Harry Potter world.
I’ve not heard of these points before, but I love saving up points for days out. It makes the days out more fun as they haven’t cost!
I have never heard of Avois points, possibly as we’ve not flown with any of the mentioned airways. It is good to know this is available and where to spend the points too/
This is a great way to afford days out more easily. Tickets can be so expensive!
I have Avios but didn’t realize you could use them for things other than flights — thanks for the info!!
