5 family winter cruise destinations to embark on this year

We fell in love with cruising back in 2016 when we embarked on a Mediterranean Cruise aboard the Carnival Vista.

Cruising is the perfect family holiday as it combines fun and entertainment, whilst offering you a snapshot of destinations you visit. We were lucky enough to visit Barcelona, Messina, Pompeii, Rome, Pisa, Marseille and Palma during our cruise and fell in love with Italy, in particular and all the country has to offer.

Much as we loved the warmth of the Med, I would love to travel North on our next cruise and I have been busy researching the best cruise deals to get us to our destinations of choice.

Norway

The Norwegian fjords are top of my list and a destination that comes highly recommended by my Mum who enjoyed a cruise there a couple of years ago.

The Fjords are one of the seven natural wonders of the world, with pristine waters that cut through steep mountains that create dramatic waterfalls tumbling down the mountainsides. Of course the other reason to explore this part of the world is also to see the Northern Lights dancing in the skies above.

Iceland

Iceland has been top of my bucket list for years and we have still not got there. In my research of European cruises I discovered that you can not only follow Viking history in Norwegian Fjords, but some cruises follow the Vikings to Iceland aswell.

I am fascinated by volcano’s and geology and Iceland is the perfect location to explore hot spa’s, lava fields and see the mid-atlantic ridge, where the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates meet in Thingvellir.

We might even be lucky enough to do some whale watching from the ship!!

Caribbean

For my next destination we are heading somewhere a little warmer. I was lucky enough to visit the Cayman Islands as a child and have fond memories of finding sand dollars on the white sand, snorkelling with exotic fish and meeting turtles and I know the kids would love it too.

 

The Caribbean is made for cruise holidays, as it has so many beautiful and diverse islands, there is always somewhere new to explore.

Far East

Full of mystical charm and Oriental heritage and tradition, the Far East is fast becoming a popular destination for cruises and is so large that the only problem is choosing which part you want to see.

Can you imagine waking up to a view of futuristic skyscrapers, or going on a historic walk along the Great Wall of China.

I would love to visit the millionaires playground of Dubai and give the kids the opportunity to try sand-boarding and camel-riding as well as visiting the Burj Khalifa, the world’s tallest building, where you can head for level 148, a colossal 555 metres (1,820 feet) above ground for a stunning 360-degree view of the city.

Australia and New Zealand

My nephew has just returned from a year-long gap year in Australia and had the most amazing time exploring the continent and his photo’s from his travels are simply stunning.

Australia is extraordinarily diverse in terms of its geography, wildlife and climate, with deserts, mountains and rainforests and New Zealand has unparalleled natural beauty to offer.
