NESCAFÉ® Dolce Gusto® Lumio Automatic Coffee Machine Review

I had a coffee machine in the kitchen a couple of years ago, but not having much worktop space to play with it was soon relegated to the cupboard and eventually re-homed by my daughter Abbey.

I miss having a decent coffee, especially at this time of year, so when NESCAFÉ® Dolce Gusto® offered me a machine to review, I jumped at the chance.

I opted for the space-saving Lumio Automatic Coffee Machine which is a compact pod coffee machine with a minimalist design, whatsmore is there are over 30 varieties of coffee pods to choose, from espressos and cappuccinos, to skinny lattes & hot chocolates.

The machine measures 18cm W x 22cm D x 37cm H,  has a 1 litre capacity and a maximum 15 bar pump pressure, which means that the Lumio machine delivers high quality drinks with no mess, no fuss, just like you might find in your local coffee shop.

I have to admit that setting it up was a challenge. The instructions came as pictures and were not clear at all. The water tank was easy to set up, but it was trial and error with the filter and took me a good 15-20 minutes to figure it out.

Once it all fell into place and you know what you are doing, it is really easy to use.

Just pop in a pod, select the volume you desire with the volume selector, and your perfect coffee will be ready in seconds.

With the coffees sealed in the pods after the roast has been ground, you get delicious aromas and full flavours. Because the coffee grinds stay in the pod there is virtually no cleaning either, but make sure you keep the “blank pod” that comes with the machine to clean it through.

There is a handy drip tray at the bottom incase you over-judge the amount of liquid you need, although for a mug of coffee I recommend the XL setting.

I am really impressed with the machine so far, the coffee is delicious and your coffee is ready in seconds. Pods are available in all good supermarkets, but to see the full range go to www.dolce-gusto.co.uk/coffee-pods

Check out my video below to see how to set the machine up and use it.

  1. I’ve heard so many great reviews about this. I have a standard filter coffee machine, but I enjoy the benefit of having a timer on it – freshly brewed coffee in the morning!

  2. We have a Dolce Gusto – different version – and I literally can not be without it. I so look forward to being able to make a killer cup of coffee every morning and I don’t even need to leave the house to make that happen. I love the look of this one too.

  3. ahh I have been looking at coffee machines lately, being a coffee addict. Not a bad price as well. I was basing my research on the price of the pods. Some are rather expensive.

  4. I have been wanting one of these for a good while now. A friend of mine has one, and the coffee at her house tastes so much better than my boring instant coffee granules. I think I need to drop more hints to my hubby!

  5. I’ve been looking at coffee machines for a while and I think you’ve swayed my decision, this one looks fab. I don’t drink coffee myself but I really want to get a coffee machine for guests, and hot chocolate for myself of course.

  6. I stayed in a hotel recently that had a model of this, and found it easy to use and rather good coffee. I just worry that buying one for home will result in it getting used like crazy for the first few weeks, then dying off because I forget to buy pods (which is usually the main reason).

  7. This looks fab! I keep toying with the idea of getting a machine for our house. The space it takes up always puts me off so it’s good to know this one is so small. The pods are quite a bit cheaper than I expected, would work out so much cheaper than our regular coffee shop trips.
