When I was (a lot) younger, I used to work in a bar and used to enjoy this time of year more than any other because people used to order cocktails and I loved making them.
Cocktails then went out of fashion but now it seems they are back with a vengeance and Christmas is the perfect time to learn how to create your own.
So what are the perfect cocktails to try this festive season?
Snowball
The Snowball cocktail is light and fruity, yet rich and creamy at the same time. Its velvety texture and rich creaminess makes it perfect for this time of year.
- 4 ice cubes
- 40 ml Warninks advocaat*
- lemonade, to top up
- juice of 1 lime wedge
- 1 orange, sliced, to garnish
Simply fill a highball glass with ice, pour in the ingredients and garnish with the orange. For an extra festive touch, stir with a cinnamon stick.
* For an extra alcoholic kick at 10mls of Cognac
Did you know, for a sweet treat this winter, try adding Warninks Advocaat to a warming Hot Chocolate. *adults only*
The Fresh Scicilian
The Fresh Sicilian is the perfect cocktail for every occasion! Made from Solerno, the world’s first blood orange liqueur, it’s bittersweet taste and invigorating aroma brings a welcoming contrast to those dark winter nights.
- 50ml Solerno
- 2 lime wedges squeezed
- 3 sprigs of mint
- Soda or sparkling water
Pour the Solerno into a stemmed wine glass and top with soda or sparkling water. Add three sprigs of mint to taste and garnish with a slice of orange.
Chambord Bellini
A wonderful combination of Prosecco and Chambord Liqueur create this raspberry flavoured, light, refreshing, delicious and bubbly elegant cocktail.
- 2 tsp Chambord Raspberry liqueur
- 3-4 frozen raspberries
- 1 bottle Prosecco
Pour the Chambord Liqueur into a champagne flute. Hold a teaspoon upside down inside the glass, over the top of the liqueur, and slowly pour in the Prosecco, pulling the spoon up slowly as you go – this will create the pretty two-tone effect. Add in in the frozen raspberries for an extra chill.
What are your favourite cocktails for this time of year?
I’ll take any of these Kara but love the Bellini. I can remember drinking Snowballs in my younger days x
ohhh i will be defiantly having a snowball this year i tried it for the first time last year and loved it! normally i just have a bit of baileys but i don’t have to drive this year so might have a few snowballs!!
Snowballs are a must, they taste like Christmas to me. And I love the Bellini. However if you enjoy making cocktails that much and miss doing so then feel free and I will do the tasting for you.xx

I love Chambord! I bought some last year and made fabulous cocktails with it. My parents always make snowballs, they are certainly a Christmas drink
I adore cocktails, no idea how to make them though so I shall give your recipes a go-they sound delicious
I love the look of the “Fresh Sicilian”, spending the Christmas holidays with my in-laws, but next year, I might just give this one a go 🙂
We don’t tend to drink cocktails at Christmas, but this is making me seriously rethink that! These look so delicious and perfect for a Christmassy winters evening!
I do love a good Bellini but I am definitely intrigued by the snowball! It sounds like the perfect Christmas cocktail!
Oh the snowballs are on my list this Christmas! Great choices
The fresh Sicilian sounds lovely! I am afraid last 7 days and next 5 days have been filled with lots of amazing cocktails in Maldives – so best I pin your suggestions for our welcome back to London 😉 X
Haha we have had snowballs each year for as long as I can remember. They’re a tradition!!
Oh I do love a bellini! I’m out with the girls tomorrow so I’ll be enjoying a few!
I don’t normally drink around this time of year so dont really have a favourite cocktail but love these three and will be recreating them for sure
I bloody love Snowballs – I don’t care that they’re old fashioned haha! I remember having them when I was about 9 or 10, as a special treat before Christmas hehe! Naughty I know, but hey, never did me any harm 😉 x
These cocktails sound delicious. I was recently introduced to the Swiss Wall which is really good and would definitely recommend it
