Reasons Families Will Fall in Love with Wales

There is no question that there are some truly spectacular gems around the UK, but the magical charm of Wales draws holidaymakers from across the globe to its rolling countryside and iconic coastlines. The adrenalin-junkies are appeased by the host of outdoor activities the country offers – from surfing on the shores to climbing to the summit of mountains; whilst those after some R+R can achieve this in one of the welcoming towns or villages located around Wales, with all the amenities you could need, without battling through bustling crowds. However, for big families on tight budgets and young kids in tow, finding a holiday destination that will delight everyone can be difficult, but in this feature, you will see why Wales will capture your families heart.

Beaches for Days

Tenby

Wales is made up of 870-miles of spectacular coastline, yes – you read that right! The beaches dotted along Wales provide families with a spot in the summer that rivals any beach in the Mediterranean (and saves you a good buck you would have paid for the flights!). With many family-friendly beaches to choose from, families have a wealth of choice on which Welsh holiday destination they can pick. But wherever you choose, be sure to try your hand at building a sandcastle or two, or even get the family attempting to stand up on a surf board- there are plenty of surfing schools around Wales that are happy to teach complete beginners!

Seaside resorts often accredited as family-friendly include Anglesey, the most northern point of Wales, that has plenty of shops and attractions to keep everyone entertained, including the Sea Zoo that boasts over 150 sea species to marvel!

Unique Experiences

Wales prides itself on the host of attractions and experiences available for holidaymakers. To the north, venture up the highest mountain in England and Wales, Mount Snowdon, to witness spectacular views as far as the eye can see over the Snowdonia National Park. You can reach the top of Snowdon by foot if your family is up for the challenge, or via the train if you fancy a leisurely ascent. The park in which the mountain sits is phenomenal, with road trips along the winding roads offering spectacular views across the Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

Close by, the family favourite of Zip World allows the kids to feel what it’s like to fly on the fastest zip wire in the entire world! You can even have a go yourself if you’re feeling brave, but there are plenty of spots to watch them if you want to keep your feet on the ground.

Zip World

Talking of the ground, be sure to visit Bounce Below (North Wales) that will take your family underground into a maze of trampolines set in a cave. Lit by an array of lights, the surreal location makes for an experience your family will never forget.

To the south, the iconic Brecon Beacons brings plenty of tourists to Wales. Known for the lush rolling hills, there are plenty of walks to embark on. Expect plenty of picture-worthy natural views and a refreshing breeze to make you feel rejuvenated on your venture, two great reasons to visit for city dwellers who want an escape to the countryside. To top it off, within the Brecon Beacons is the only accredited Dark Sky Reserve in Wales, where, on a clear night, you can spot the Milky Way, constellations or even meteor showers if you get your timings right.

Away from the heart of the countryside, the sea offers plenty of memorable experiences. Explore the Gower Peninsula via boat and keep an eye out for dolphins, amongst other sea creatures. Remember to check for the best time of year to spot your favourite animals and don’t forget to pack your binoculars as not all boat services will provide them.

Quality Family Time

There is perhaps no other place that offers an exceptional setting for quality family time than Wales. Reject the hotels and campsites because holiday cottages will allow you to have your own private home-from-home and truly have some quality family time. In the day, exploring everything Wales has to offer will create lifelong memories, whilst in the evening having a meal in, or ordering takeout (no one’s judging!), will give you the chance to talk about your holiday so far, and just generally check in with everyone! Once you’ve finished, retire to your own comfy living room for a good family film or even a board game, or two. Whatever you do in your holiday home – you will be grateful for the space!

Holiday cottages are plentiful across the entirety of the country, so whichever destination you settle on for your Welsh escape, you are sure to find accommodation that matches your preferences and requirements.

Many come with some luxury touches, such as hot tubs or log fires, so once the kids have gone up to bed, you can enjoy some time alone with your partner (it is your holiday as well, after all!).

If you need any more reasons to visit Wales, holiday cottages provider Quality Cottages will provide you with an insight into every corner of Wales, in addition to offering a wealth of idyllic properties to stay in (many are dog-friendly too, so the pooch can come along too!).

  1. Sounds like you had a lovely time. We went to Wales last month which is the first time since I was a kid. We’re planning on going back next year at some point and it would be even better if we can take our dog with us x

  2. My Husband’s family were originally from Wales, so we often visit. Last time was in Snowdonia, in a holiday cottage. You’re right, it’s the best way to vacation.
