The boys love all things Star Wars, so when I saw that the Science of Star Wars was coming to Winchester Science Centre I knew they would love it.
There were two events happening over the weekend and the first was obvious as soon as we walked through the door dressed in our best Jedi robes, as the Rebel Legion came into sight.
The Rebel Legion are a costume club of Lucasfilm Limited and Disney and raise money for various charities in the UK. They brought several characters from the Star Wars films to roam Winchester Science during the weekend.
The kids were over the moon to spot Stormtroopers, Darth Maul, Darth Vader and many other characters throughout the day.
There were also real life space things to see including pieces of satellite, a working replica moon buggy and the chance to make your own star map.
The second event was the Science of Star Wars which was presented by award-winning science communicator, rapper and co-author of The Science of Star Wars, Jon Chase of Rap Science, who performed a live show version of the book, exploring the science facts within this popular science fiction.
Jon was brilliant and had the kids enthralled as he worked, using scenes from the films, raps, pictures and quizzes to keep the kids interested. Isaac especially loved learning how much of the Star Wars world is rooted in reality and if one day we would see some of the extraordinary inventions from the films materialize in our world.
The show lasted just under an hour and then we headed back into the science centre to explore and as it was National Space Week, there was also a range of space-themed challenges and activities taking place in the Invention Studio throughout the weekend.
It was nice to see that some of the exhibits had been moved and changed, keeping the centre interesting for this kids. The newest exhibit, a topography feature, had them enthralled as they changed the shape and features of the surface of the Earth to create land and water features.
Winchester Science Centre and Planetarium is a leading hands-on science and discovery centre dedicated to sparking curiosity in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM), and is home to the UK’s largest standalone planetarium.
We love visits to Winchester Science Centre as there is so much to see and do. Entrance costs from £10.91 per adult and £7.64 for children, plus there is 10% discount on general entry when paying for three or more tickets. Tickets to the Science of Star Wars show cost an additional £1 per person.

This looks like a really cool place and great value for money. My children would love it I bet! It’s good that they move things around too so it’s different each time you visit.
