The Gas Leak

Today has not been a good day!

The day started well, with a visit to the new Mighty Claws Adventure Golf that has just opened in Bournemouth. Sebby loved seeing all the animatronic dinosaurs whilst we played a couple of games of crazy golf.

I was also excited that my new Beko Range Cooker was due to be delivered in the afternoon. However, despite telling me that they would be with me anytime between 1pm – 5pm, they turned up early so I had to make a dash home.

They delivery men didn’t seem to mind being kept waiting and were soon in the house preparing to install the oven, only it never made it out of its wrapping.

After a bit of equipment fetching it seems that they suspected that I had a gas leak in not one, but three places. There was lots of checking and re-checking but it was soon clear that they suspected a bigger problem and we had to phone the Gas Emergency Services on 0800 111 999.

Doors and windows opened all over the house we were told we could expect a 2 hour wait but thankfully it was just 20 minutes for the engineer to arrive, although it did mean that the kids got to play in the garden and finally find the confidence to play with the rabbits that we are looking after for half term.

The lovely engineer literally combed the whole house to find the leak. We have one in the old steel pipework behind the oven, but a second one that we think is around the boiler which means that we have had our supply capped off – all on a bank holiday weekend!

The engineer kindly left me with a hotplate so I have been able to improvise dinner for the kids, but it is not an ideal situation with no hot water and just a hotplate and a microwave to cook with………at least it is not cold.

Trying to find a gas engineer to come and fix our problems on a Bank Holiday weekend is nigh on impossible. British Gas can’t send one for 9 days so I am busy phoning one after the other and just being met with answer machines.
