Did you know that Easter weekend is the busiest retail trading time for DIY and home stores?
It is that time of year that we start wistfully looking at the garden, making plans for the warm weather and which plants we want to see blooming during the summer as well as planning any garden furniture purchases.
Hubby has jet washed everything!! I have got on top of the lawn now, seeding bare patches and putting weed killer on the stubborn dandelions that seem to come back in force every year and this weekend I painted the fence around our front garden………just the back to do now.
Plant wise, my apple tree has finally come into blossom and we have just bought some pansies to plant around its base for a bit of added colour. Hubby also snuck in some of his favourite plants – sweet peas and Eliza and I are going to sow these around her fairy garden later in the week.
Last year we did a lot of work on the garden, building a sandpit and a patio area so now I have an ‘office’ outside so I can watch the kids as they play, but the garden is still very much a children’s play area, although as they are getting bigger, their toys are getting smaller.
I have decided to extend Eliza’s fairy garden into a proper border, although instead of planting flowers I want to add plants such as Crape Myrtle, Honeysuckle and Buddleia to try and encourage butterflies into the garden.
I am also hoping to get some new patio furniture in the shape of a sofa type set up, rather than a table and chairs.
What are your plans for the garden this year?
I have a lot of plans and ideas to do in the garden since my house is new. But due to the lack of time I have to spread my plans. This year I want to build an outdoor ping pong table.
