Celebrating Individuality with Fruit Shoot #itsmything

As a family we love to try out new things and visit different places, so when we were invited to take part in the Fruit Shoot ‘It’s my thing’ campaign we jumped at the chance.

Fruit Shoot has talked to UK parents who feel that their kids are under pressure to live up to societal expectations and it is getting in the way of their ability to truly express themselves and discover what makes them happiest.

As a parent I want my children to have the freedom to discover and indulge in their passions – the things that makes them happiest, because when they do it helps them be the best they can be.

My children have all taken part in clubs in one form or another and it is interesting to see how different each one was. Abbey loved being part of Brownies, Callan was a keen army cadet and Kian loved playing football as part of a team. Isaac is my wildlife fanatic and a keen swimmer, Eliza has just discovered her inner performer and Sebastian is currently our dinosaur hunter.

Fruit Shoot sent us a fabulous hamper of goodies to help the kids discover what their passions are and it is the RSPB book for Garden Birds that got the first outing.

We have a lot of squirrels that visit our garden who try to steal the bird food and although it can be quite entertaining to watch them hanging upside down on the bird feeder, Isaac decided that we should move it to where they cannot reach it to encourage the birds back in to the garden.

The experiment worked and so far the kids have spotted several garden birds including a robin, chaffinch, blackbird, thrush and coal tit visiting us. Excitingly we also got a woodpecker in the garden and looks like we have a coal tit staking out our bird box.

We have also been using the Bug Safari Kit whilst out and about. It is a great addition to backpack as it gives the kids the encouragement to explore the environment around them.

Finding your thing doesn’t have to cost the earth either. Simply expose your child to new things so they can explore potential passions and interests. You could do this by helping them find information, resources and inspiration e.g. books at the library, visiting a museum, digital information and videos or news articles.

Dinosaur

Sebastian is dinosaur mad and at the age of 3 if you put him in front of a book about them, he can probably name about 90% of the dinosaurs in the book. He may only be young, but seeing him charge around the Natural History museum, squealing with delight because he found a Triceratops or a T-Rex was so lovely to see. His infectious excitement rubbed off on Isaac and Eliza too.

The ‘It’s My Thing’ campaign has been created to start a conversation about modern childhood and modern parenthood. It aims to encourage parents who want their kids to have the freedom to discover and indulge in their passions and not feel pressured to follow an expected or set path.

In conjunction with Dr Ranj Singh Fruit Shoot has created advice and information for parents and Fruit Shoot will also giving away prizes on their Facebook page to help kids find and indulge in their ‘things’.

Fruit Shoot offers a range of no added sugar drinks to help keep children refreshed in a handy bottle with a no-mess, re-sealable sports cap. There are a range of flavours and formulations but every bottle is free from artificial colours and flavours with no added sugar.

Fruit Shoot has launched ‘It’s My Thing’ to celebrate and champion confidence and individualism in kids and encourage creativity and self-expression and to help support parents to let their kids’ express themselves and find the thing they love.

Join in and celebrate your kids’ ‘things’ however fun, quirky and awesome they are on the FruitShootGB Facebook page and by using #itsmything

  1. What a brilliant campaign! I love this and I think it is so important to encourage them and not push them. All of my kids have had opportunities to do different clubs and they have all benefitted so much from being a part of something they love in so many cases. It also stops them from being attached to the dreaded screens too which is also so important

  2. this is a great campaign, well done to Fruit Shoot. My three are all very different in the things they love to do and we encourage them to be individual. Although it’s nice when they do things together too.
