Keeping the kids occupied during school holidays can be tricky, especially if the weather is miserable.
Much as we love to be out and about battling whatever the weather throws at us, sometimes we just want to relax in front of the TV, watching a film whilst snuggled under a blanket with some popcorn.
Last year we culled our Virgin Media package as we were finding it got more and more expensive to run and we weren’t really using all the channels we had, choosing to take full advantage our trusty Amazon Prime account.
With Amazon Prime you get unlimited music streaming, unlimited streaming of 15,000 movies and TV episodes, access to 800,000 Kindle books, Prime Photos for unlimited photo storage on Amazon Cloud Drive and one-hour delivery on Amazon orders and all for a set £79 a year.
We are very lucky to have a smart TV which has the amazon app already installed on it. We simply sign in with our account details and we can then search for whatever we want to watch.
Sebby’s choice of program is normally Paw Patrol, the one series he misses from our Virgin package, although, thanks to Kian, he is also now hooked on Power Rangers and LEGO films.
Eliza loves to watch Just Add Magic, which sees Kelly, Darbie, and Hannah investigate how magical recipes work and face the temptations of using magic to help overcome the everyday challenges of being middle school girls, Creative Galaxy where you follow a loveable little alien artist to colourful planets of art and inspiration and My Little Pony.
Thanks to Kian’s influence, Isaac is heavily into all things Pokemon and Yu-Gi-Oh and I love that he will sit and watch all the old films with his big brother.
Hubby and I both enjoying Lucifer, Fear of the Walking Dead, Black Sails, Man in the High Castle, Vikings and The Grand Tour at the moment.
If you don’t have a Smart TV, Amazon Fire TV devices are the best way to enjoy movies, TV shows, music and live TV. Its open ecosystem delivers an easy way to watch Netflix, Amazon Video, Prime Video, BBC iPlayer, Demand 5, and more on your big-screen TV and Kian has one for the TV in his bedroom.
You can choose three different devices to use to stream the content you want to see:
- Amazon Fire TV (RRP: £79.99) which is the only UK Streamer to support 4K Ultra HD
- Amazon Fire Stick with voice control (RRP: £44.99) which you simply plug in and start streaming straight away. Voice Remote that allows you to simply speak the name of a movie, TV show, actor, director, or genre and quickly get results.
- Amazon Fire Stick (RRP: £34.99) which allows you to connect to Wi-Fi networks that require a password without installing additional software
We have snuck our amazon stick away from Kian this half term whilst we are away so we can have movie nights in our holiday cottage. Isaac has already asked for Goonies and Ghostbusters, Sebby wants to watch dinosaurs (Jurassic Park) and Eliza wants to watch Barbie Spy Squad.
I think we have half term covered!!
Disclaimer: We received a one year subscription of Amazon Prime for the purpose of a review. All opinions are our own.
Jurassic Park is my go to movie – much to hubbys annoyance now as ive seen it hundreds of times lol Go Sebby!!
Ooh we loved Amazon prime during our trial! We didn’t keep it up, just because it was quite expensive on top of our Sky subscription and Netflix, but I did enjoy it, especially the free postage!

Great post this! Amazon prime has got me through many sick days off work when I can’t move from the bed and want something to watch!!
We’re big Amazon Prime fans. Lucifer is amazing I’m gutted that I’m up to date and now have to wait for some new episodes. Off to try Bosch next.
Love Amazon Prime – they don’t have all the shows but they do have some really great ones! Can def recommend Black Sails and Ray Donovan!
Amazon Prime is great it has so many options for adults, kids and teens and is the perfect way to keep kiddies occupied during half term!
I think you are half term covered too. Enjoy it.
I really need to look into prime as we spend way too much on sky and there is never anything on. My little two are Paw Patrol crazy too xx
I rather over use our Amazon Prime – so handy! and the movies available come in handy for family movie nights here
It sounds fab! We have Sky and Netflix at the moment, but we would certainly consider Amazon Prime at some point in the future x
Sounds like a great idea. I had not heard of this before visiting your site 🙂
I have been thinking about investing in Amazon I thnk they are starting to take over netflix, plus if it has paw patrol my daughter and I are on to a winner. x
You know, I’ve never considered Amazon Prime having always been with a different company. However iv cancelled my subscription to that company despite the wails of protest from the little people so I may have to have a look into this option
Ahh I love our Amazon Prime Stick! Haven’t watched much kids stuff yet but we’ve really gotten into Sneaky Pete – really recommend that! I love shows about con artists, don’t know why!
