We are frequent travels and often find ourselves on the road for day, weekend and longer trips.
Last February we headed to France and on the way home it was clear that Sebby really wasn’t well. He had a sore throat and a high temperature but despite having paracetamol solution and ibruprofen with us, I couldn’t take his temperature as we didn’t have a thermometer with us.
It turns out he had a nasty bout of tonsilitis and i felt very guilty about travelling home on a choppy ferry and I vowed to add a thermometer to my first aid kit. The trouble is, we have one of the giant Braun in-ear ones that takes up lots of room and is too big for my small travel first aid kit.
Now there is a solution to this problem, the Oblumi tapp, which is new on the UK market.
This small device, which, when connected to a smartphone, converts it into a powerful thermometer which tells you the temperature in just seconds thanks to the Oblumi Tapp App (also available on Google Play.)
Simply connect the Oblumi Tapp into the headphone port of your mobile phone. I have the iPhone 7 and have to use the adapter headphone cable to use with the thermometer which I have added to the case.
Not only can the infrared thermometer, which is as accurate as my Braun, be used to take the in-ear or forehead temperature, it can also check the temperature of liquids such as bath water or a baby’s bottle and is easy to tuck inside your bag in its case.
The app lets you set up each member of the family with name, weight and date of birth and then tells you exactly what to do and when. It registers your data history so any issues can be shared with a medical professional if need be and can even calculate the correct medicine dosage for the patient based on weight and age.
You can also set an alarm so you don’t forget the next round of medication or to re-take a temperature during a fever.
I actually think this is a genius piece of technology and now keep it in my handbag so it is with me at all times so we are ready for any of that emergencies that life often throws at us.
I love how the technology of the internet and of things is really making this sort of tech more accessible to people. it looks like a genius piece of tech.
I love how you use it with your phone – what a handy piece of kit for mums of tots and also childminders. We have the large Braun thermometer at home too and I agree – it isn’t travel friendly!!
What a fantastic invention and especially for travelling. We have one of the big heavy thermometers and i always have a problem with dead batteries whenever i need it!
This is a genius idea. Does it need an internet connection to work or is it all done offline through the app?
No internet required
This looks like such a clever little device, perfect for travelling. I have never seen these before x
Very handy! I have to admit we don’t even have a thermometer!
Wow this looks amazing, great that you can use it with your phone too!
Oh wow, I love this, what an amazing idea. Mich x
Oh wow! I love technology! Fantastic idea.
Great idea! I’ve never really found the right thermometer and when I take a temperature I always have to google to see if it’s high or not – love that the app sorts that for you.
Oh my goodness, this is amazing! Even though Boo is 5 – this would be so useful and reassuring to have, especially when we travel.
Technology has come so far since I was a kid. I love how it connects to your smart phone. So handy!
This looks amazing! I’ve never seen them before but will definitely check it out!
This sounds like a very handy tool to have around the house.
That’s pretty high tech and a must have when you have a family and little ones running around. Does it work on dogs too… ? hehe 😉
Love how you can connect it to your phone. Very clever invention
