Christmas – all about generosity and celebrating unsung heroes with Coca Cola

Christmas is all about generosity and celebrating unsung heroes.

From volunteers working at the hospital, school, charity shops to people raising money for charities there are thousands of people out there who dedicate their lives to making things better for others.

This Christmas Coca-Cola is partnering with FareShare, the UK-wide charity that tackles food waste and hunger, to ‘Donate a Meal to Someone in Need’.

Taking part is simple – buy a promotional 500ml or 1.25l bottle of Coca-Cola (any variant) which features the Fare Share logo, take a photo and upload it to www.cocacola.co.uk/donateCoca-Cola will then donate 25p for each photo uploaded – this amount enables FareShare to provide a frontline charity, such as a homeless shelter or older people’s lunch club, with enough food to serve a meal to someone in need.

Coca Cola

Coca-Cola’s latest advert, ‘A Coke For Christmas’ is all about celebrating unsung heroes at Christmas, and rewarding those who make Christmas special.

Do you know anyone who has performed the ultimate act of giving this year?

Well you could nominate them to be rewarded by Coca-Cola this Christmas.

All you need to do is suggest a prize tailored to the individual you are nominating, by commenting below, to make it feel really special. E.g. a Christmas hamper to make Christmas day easier for them, or a spa treat. Maximum prize value: £250

I will select my favourite entry to win the fabulous prize which will be fulfilled by Coca-Cola and accompanied by a Coca-Cola gift comprising Fare Share branded Coca-Cola Zero Sugar product (2 x 500ml bottles), a set of two Coca-Cola Riedel glasses, a mini Coca-Cola Christmas truck and a personalised note.

  1. I’d like to nominate my daughters German teacher. As we come to the end of the year 11 he’s given his all to her German lessons this year. He’s one of those teachers you meet and wished he was around when you were at school. Mr Barnes is always giving back to the school after all it was part of his first steps. He always helps out at the quiz nights! well done Mr Barnes you’ve made my daughters last year amazing!! Thank you.

  2. What a wonderful prize! I would like to nominate my mum. She is one of these people who never says no if she can help, always goes the extra mile and never thinks of herself. Ever the independent woman she continues to work even though she struggles daily with arthritis which unfortunately is getting worse but she’s a strong woman and is refusing to let it beat her. What she needs is for the pain to be taken away but as this isn’t possible I think what would be nice is something that will pamper her, lots of her favourite bath time products and a foot spa to ease the swelling and pain in her feet.

  3. I would like to nominate my lovely Mum. I have had a tough year year beating cancer and going through horrid treatment for months. I am currently in hospital and have been for a month after having 2 operations, 1 planned and 1 emergency. My mum travels 30 miles a day to look after my children, takes them to school, cleans the house, visits me in hospital and then back to look after the boys until there Dad gets home from work. She suffers from arthritis and hasn’t moaned once. She is always by my side making sure I am comfortable and gives my boys the love they need whilst I am away from them. She really is me hero. She deserves to be spoiled maybe a make over or a night in a hotel.

I’ve been going through a fight for my life for the past decade, but he’s been there for me the entire time and not given up or stopped supporting me. It’s been very hard on both of us, alot of tears and pain, I would love to opportunity to just give him a little cheer and a thank you x

  6. I am nominating my father, as he has always looked after my mum and sisters and is the most caring individual I know. It hasn’t been easy for him as he is in a lot of pain most of the time, but he doesn’t complain- instead he makes sure that we are well and looked after. He helps me with really difficult homework and after a long day at school, he greets me with a hug. We rescues animals when they are in need and nurse them back to health. Just recently, we saved a hedgehog who weighed very little and wouldn’t survive the harsh winter. She’s very content and well on her way to making a speedy recovery! We also rescued a budgie from a tree two years ago, and she is a very happy bird. My dad is also a trained first aider, so again, you can see his caring side! My father doesn’t normally get many treats, so I would be very grateful if he won this prize! I also think he deserves a hamper or a gift voucher to spend wherever he likes! Thank you!

  7. My best friend Sue is not only supporting me through a rocky divorce, she’s looking after her poorly mum, her friend with severe depression and countless other people who message her for advice. She’s a trained NLP life coach and uses her skills to help so many people without any pay or reward what so ever. Her daily morning phone calls to me have been my lifeline (which she makes on her way to work as a health visitor assistant where she goes on to help many more mums, dads and children all day. She is guardian angel for so many people and deserves something just for her. A spa break would be amazing as she loves a little pampering but never has the time.

    • I nominate my father to receive a nice Christmas hamper. He’s always put me first, trying his hardest to provide for me after my mother died shortly before my first birthday. It’s never been easy for him and I’d like to give something back after all these years.

  8. I would nominate my daughter, she has coped with me being ill for the past 13 years being in hospital and having over 45 operations, she never complained, her father passed away when she was 16 and again she was very grown up and coped so well while others fell to pieces. She is now 21, she had finished her uni degree in Animal welfare and behavior, while working full time as a shop supervisor. she is now looking to go back to uni to get her degree in Biology and also apply for a vet nurse training position at a local vets, all this and she helps with our dogs, helps with housework, dresses my wounds and drives to my hospital appointments. She is an amazing person, and I am so proud she is my daughter.

  13. I nominate my mum as she has had a tough year with her roof on her house falling down and she has been having to stay with me whilst her home is getting fixed and she has always been helping and supporting my family.
I would love some shopping vouchers for my mum so she can treat herself.

  14. I would nominate my friend Barbara to get a spa treat or afternoon tea with our wee group of four who she offers endless support to. Its a simple thing but sharing time all together is what she would love. This year she has supported me (and the rest of my family) through my son having to go into care due to behavioural difficulties and all that led up to that as well as having to cope with her own dad’s sudden death. She is a rock that not only I totally couldn’t get through life with, but several others in the village (and beyond) couldn’t either.

  15. I would like to nominate my fiancé Simon. I admire his bravery and strength of character. A few months ago on his way back from work, he saved a woman from taking her own life who was contemplating jumping off a train station bridge onto the platform. He noticed her above whilst he was waiting for his rail replacement bus, others noticed too but he decided to go and help. He talked to her for a while and made the brave decision to grab her from the edge and held her in his arms until the police arrived. He conducts himself with such calmness, grace and modesty that I don’t think he realises the impact his selfless act had. Driving lesson vouchers would help Simon’s life a lot as he works shift work and desperately needs a car!

  16. I’d like to nominate my mother in law Linda James. She set up an anti bullying charity called Bulliesout and has been building it up from scratch for years. She spreads ridiculous amounts of hours going to meetings, promoting the good works, delivering training packages to schools and business, raising money to keep it going and this was all recognised this year when she was awarded an MBE by HRH the Queen. At the same time she is a fantastic mum to her 3 boys and a lovely grandmother to her 3 crazy granddaughters. She suffers from ill health, but nothing stops her enthusiasm and she just keep going and going!! I’m not sure what she would like apart from a donation to the charity, maybe some new carpets or some soft furnishings as she is very house proud and my daughters might have ruined a sofa cushion or two!

  17. I nominate my Mum because of her bravery and tenacity. She has been through so much in her life, including being left a single mother when my Dad died. She never complains, and is always there for anyone. She’s never got any money because she will invariably give her last pound to someone who needs it. My dream is to be in a financial position to look after her for a change. I’m not ashamed to say that she is my heroine and the person I look up to the most in this world. No matter that I am an adult and a mother myself. I’d love for her to receive a Christmas hamper. It’s something she’s always wanted but could never afford.

It would have to be or neighbours….they say you can’t choose your family and in many cases you can’t always choose your neighbours but we landed the jackpot when we moved to our house 3 years ago, they are everything you could wish for and not a sign of Hyacinth Bucket in sight! Unfortunately they have not had the best year with deaths, jobs and a number of other factors so it would be nice for them to get a taylor made wine and luxury goods hamper to show just how special they are and to end the year on a positive x

  19. I’d like to nominate my friend Claire, she lost her little boy Ollie to leukaemia in Sept 2015, after he had fought it for 5 years, throughout that time she and her husband were separated from her two other children (who are both completely amazing too) for long periods of time, so she has now set up a Charity in Ollie’s name to raise money to help and support other families going through this terrible disease, she is also an awesome swimming instructor, teaching and inspiring children, she is a huge Michael Ball fan, so I would love to give her vouchers for an online ticket company, so she can be there for a concert in 2017 x

He has been brilliant at building relationships particularly with some of the young men that other people have found more challenging and I would love to recognise him for the many hours he has spent getting alongside them and building relationships with them.
I think an X box would be a really fitting present because he would be able to enjoy it with some of the young people he volunteers with as well, and they would have so much fun together.

  21. I’d like to nominate my husband James. Sept 2015-July 2016 he managed to complete his university degree in Early Years and he got a First, which was AMAZING and we were so proud, especially as he worked full time monday-friday, and then at the weekend I worked, so he had to look after the children AND write his assignments. I can’t even begin to understand HOW he managed it (although one night he pulled an ‘all-nighter’ and when I came downstairs there were 14 teaspoons in the sink (he obviously needed his caffeine!).
So now, he is a trainee teacher, so he still attends university but also works in a primary school with long days. He suffers from anxiety which can make life hard for him. Last week his car broke down and needed £700+ spending on it which was not easy for him.

Anyway, he works SO hard, and he is doing so well in his new job, we are so proud!! I’d love to treat him to a family day out at his favourite place – The Warner Brother Studio Tour (Harry Potter Tour!) in Watford. I know it would make him so happy.

    Thank you x

  22. My SIL is truley amazing. She runs a soical club in the NE of England. The club is in a very deprived area and recently the local steel works closed, who in the past has sponsored a lot of events at the club, but more importantly employed a lot of the locals too.Earlier in the year my sister in law, along with The Ladies of Steel (a group she is chairwoman of) decided that the area needed a youth group and they did something about it. Every Tuesday night in the club they hold an evening for the local youths aged between 8 and 15, where they can play snooker, do arts and crafts, play organised games and also have a boogie as the club DJ is involved too. The children only have to pay 20p per week. Since then they have gone on to form Classified (a dance troupe) and also are planning on holding a pantomime this year too

  24. I’d love to nominate my husband as for the last three years he has offered himself selflessly to all those he works with. He manages a very large centre and despite having more work than he can deal with he always makes time for the 60 or so international volunteers who work with him. He chats with them, takes them on outings, we invite them to our home and he nurtures and coaches them at work with life choices. He could easily just do 40 hours a week but that does not even occur to him as he loves to see them grow and thrive whilst they are here for a year, thousands of miles from their homes. I’d choose a night away break for him and a trip to the theatre as he loves musicals but we havn’t been to one for many years as the cost is prohibitive nowadays and working for a charity does not pay well. 27. I would like to nominate my sister in law, she has been a tower of strength to her husband (hubbies brother) in his battle with leukaemia, whilst also being a mother to their 2 year old son. She has shown tremendous courage but sadly he lost his battle on Friday and passed away in Fi’s arms. As a family we are shell shocked but without her love and support for the last 2 years she made is life worth carrying on for. My nephew is Thomas the Tank Engine mad and I would love to win them a short break at Drayton Manor, staying in a Thomas the Tank Engine Themed Room so they can spend some quality time together having fun please

He runs several businesses and has so many plates spinning at the same time he makes me dizzy yet we always come first and never feel neglected. I’m not sure how he does that! He has been the most amazing father to our three girls who totally adore him and my companion for 30 years now. We celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary next year! He deserves a weekend away to celebrate (with me of course!).

This year has been particularly hard for her as my brother finally accepted he is an alcoholic and she has been there for him every step of the way. I would like her to receive a Marks and Spencer voucher if possible as she does not make the time to shop for herself and this would be a real treat. Thank you for the competition and Merry Christmas.

I would like to nominate my daughter’s Godmother. She has had a difficult time this year, with a personal heartbreak of losing her baby, and then moving to Hong Kong (a long way from family) for commitments. But after all this, she has been so terribly kind and considerate for my daughter, and helped her through some difficulties. I would chose to give her a pamper day, just to help make her feel more human again. I hear the air in Hong Kong is terrible for the hair! 😉 (I’m Janet Robertson-Peverley on FB)

Earlier this year, she had a skin cancer scare, and was worried when her results were late, but luckily, she was given the all clear.
She is always helping others, and is even organising a Christmas dinner for disabled tenants on our estate.
I think she would benefit from a Spa break, as it would give her some pamper time that she deserves.

Becoming an ambassador for CAMHS. After a week I was sent home from hospital, as useless as a newborn. He had to do everything for me, from bathing to supporting me getting around the house and stairs. He did all the cooking, washing, shopping and drove me to umpteen appointments. Now I just have a weak left leg, but am forever grateful for having someone to lean on in every sense of the word.

I would love to gift her a monkey adoption pack from monkey world ape rescue centre and also a two night hotel stay close to the centre so she can visit (as it’s too far away to visit just for one day). My step dad has literally never left her side, he stayed with her all the day and some nights in the hospital when he was allowed, even now she is in a home the second his eyes open he is with her. He is so kind and selfless, he always thinks of others. For once id like him to realize how much we think of him. If he won this it would mean that although he cant share it with my mammy, he can have himself a few lovely treats. my wee boy Monty would LOVE the truck. Please consider this. 54. I’d like to nominate Clare Wheatley. I met Clare through the Shropshire & Mid Wales Cancer Users forum, about a year ago. (I’m the chair of the group). Clare is a cancer survivor and came along to get involved with our work which is improving the cancer experience for those following us. The more I’ve got to know Clare the more impressed I’ve been. She has made amazing changes to her life, having been part of our local Get Active, Feel Better programme she embraced this and is now qualified as a Cancer Rehab specialist. This is an amazing achievement in itself with a qualification equivalent to the same standard as a degree. Clare has even spoken at some national conferences as a patient voice promoting physical activity from the patients perspective.
Clare has thrown herself into helping others affected by cancer and gives her time freely, despite her own health issues. This includes volunteering as a steward at the Macmillans Colour run – she was on the green station and I’ve seen the photos, Clare was literally green from her toes to her head, not sure if her trainers ever recovered.
We’ve recently been working with our local hospital on issues around appropriate food for people with dietary restrictions, Clare has been involved in all the meetings and is a great patient advocate. Her personal experience with the lymphoedema service has resulted in our working with the local commissioners to ensure better patient involvement in proposed changes to services. Our forum put on a Cancer Wellbeing Event, which was attended by approximately 70 people and had really positive feedback. Clare was significantly involved in this event from sourcing an appropriate venue, creating and distributing flyers, assisting with creating and printing evaluation forms and was there on the day helping from standing in a cold car park, to manning our stand and generally helping out throughout the day. I can genuinely say without her input this event is unlikely to have happened.
She also does lots of voluntary work for Macmillan, from fundraising to speaking to even occasional photographer. All this work is improving the lives of people around us and I believe Clare truly deserves recognition of all her voluntary work. I would love her to win love 2 shop vouchers as I know money is difficult and this would enable her to buy something that is truly wanted and needed.

  56. I’d like to nominate my husband, he works in a care home specialising in Dementia which I really admire him for as I have first hand experience with my Nan suffering from it. He is sacrificing his Christmas day with his 2 young children and myself (3 and 4) to work for the third year running. I’d love to show him how much he means to us by getting him a mountain bike, he is desperate to get out cycling and explore the countryside around us and get himself a bit healthier too!!

  57. I would love to send my mister for a spa day so he can be pampered. He has been messed about royally by doctors and consultants and had mis-diagnosis one after the other. Having eventually got his diagnosis he is now on a list for a various treatments and physio and that list doesn’t seem to get smaller and nor does he seem to be moving up it!

  58. Would like to nominate my Husband who has recently being diagnosed with a blood clot on the brain. He needs to elevate the pressure in his brain as this gives him debilitating headaches, sleeping in our old bed is certainly not helping. He has been such a trooper as as he has gone back to work due to being self employed and only complaining occasionally. I would love to get him a new bed to aid his sleep and so is able to wake headache free. Thanks for the chance and Merry Christmas to you and best wishes to whoever is choosen..

  59. I would love to win a new phone for my son lewis, he’s 14, he is a young carer, helping me constantly with his 3 disabled siblings, I dnt know what I would do without him and he asks for NOTHING! not even a new phone even though the speaker doesn’t work on his and it’s got a smashed screen (it was a hand down from a relative which he was very grateful for!) He will do anything for any1 and is never nasty, as far as teenagers go he is 1 in a million! I would love to surprise him because I know it’d make his day, unfortunately it’s way out of my budget this Christmas has i’v had a rough year financially, please consider my ever so selfless son

  62. I’d like to nominate my friend Kelly. She’s such a generous, kind & thoughtful person who always puts others first. Kelly has 4 children, all under the age of 6. Her youngest son was born this week.
Her oldest child Sophie is 6 years old. Sophie is severely disabled. She has Down’s Syndrome, Chronic Lung Disease, Epilepsy, is registered blind & has Global Development Delay.
Kelly is a busy mum looking after 4 children & she still finds the time & energy to support other people. She works as a volunteer for our local Down Syndrome Support Group, raising money for other families & assisting with communication for the group on social media.
Kelly & her husband are also try to raise funds to help pay for a summer house for Sophie. They want to use the summer house as a sensory & therapy room. They really think it will help Sophie going forward & it will ensure they have the space they need for Sophie as she gets older.
They are organising & taking part in all sorts of events & activities to raise £10,000 to do this.
I really do take my hat off to Kelly. She is truly inspirational & really special.
I would love it if she was given a Christmas hamper to make Christmas day easier for her.

  64. I would pick my husband for a treat – we have had a shocking year this year yet he’s kept going and ploughing through things even after my operation so this would be a little surprise for him.

I would treat him to a selection of Bloodbowl items such as teams/paints etc (table top board game) to give him a little little lift this Christmas 🙂

  65. I would like to nominate my ex husband’s girlfriend for helping to bring up our daughter whilst I’m not there. I can only imagine how hard it is to start a relationship with somebody who already has a child. My ex and his girlfriend have recently had a new baby and even with a newborn, his girlfriend still treats my daughter as her own, doing her hair for her as her daddy doesn’t know how. The two of us don’t really see much of each other but one day I would like to become friends for my daughter’s sake. I know first hand how hard it can be with a newborn at Christmas time so I would love to win this prize for her to help make her first Christmas as a mum extra special. I would like to win her a spa day with a massage, manicure, pedicure and facial to give her a total pampered break from it all.

  66. Hello.
First of all, thank you for doing this.
This is difficult as I don’t like talking about personal stuff…Ok. So, my husband is my carer. Without him, I don’t have a life outside the house. He does everything. He works part time as he’s needed at home. He’s an amazing dad to our 5 year old, he goes without, never complains and always has a terrible joke and a cute smile.
He does much more than I want to go into here. I’d like him to win so he can have a new x box, it’s the only “him” thing he gets to do outside all his commitments. His isn’t working and …well I just feel guilty he doesn’t get any down time.
    Thank you again anyway.

  68. I’d nominate my mum to have someone else cook Christmas dinner. She’ll have my sister, brother and nan at hers, all of whom she cares for and she’ll end up having to cook them a roast even though she’s a vegetarian. She’s also just had 8 epidural injections in her back to help with back pain so it would be good to get someone else to do the cooking for her instead!
