#Win a Potty Training Pack from Huggies

Followers of my blog will know I was potty training Sebastian over the summer holidays.

Although I say he is potty trained now, since starting school he has had a few wobbly moments where we have a couple of days of accidents and then he goes back to being ok again.

Potty training is probably my least favourite parenting task and it takes bucket loads of patience, a vat of disinfectant and the eyes of an owl to catch them when they go and hide behind a curtain to have a poo (and wine for Mummy and Daddy of course).

Huggies have asked my readers to share their #pottytrainingtruths for the chance to win a prize of a potty, 3 packs of HUGGIES® Pull-Ups® day-time, 3 packs of HUGGIES® Pull-Ups® night-time and Andrex toilet paper for those messy moments.

  1. both my boys didn’t stay dry until they were 5 at night and people told me i should be ‘doing something’ sooner but to be honest i’m not going to stress everyone out about it & they did it themselves overnight. listen to your instincts not other people!

  2. I tried to make my son sit on the potty till he wee’d for the first time so he knew how it felt….after about half an hour he fell asleep on it and I felt terrible.

  3. Little boy potty trained quite quickly but I waited until summer. My little girl is showing signs already at only 18mths but I’m dreading doing it wintertime! I’ll have to have heating up to sub tropical if she’s going to be running around without nappy on!

  4. My son was potty trained during day at 2 and a half but wasn’t dry through the night until age 6. Just was not ready. All kids are different

  5. You can’t tell them they’re ready! You have to wait until they’re actually ready. Keep trying, and they will naturally get the hang of it eventually. Everyone learns at different rates, this includes toddlers! 🙂

  6. Took me ages to work out why everything in my bottom cupboard was wet – turns out my eldest was opening the top and peeing in it when he was potty training”

  7. Have a relaxed approach is my tip as I found that when I adopted that my child was relaxed too and picked it up much quicker 🙂

  8. When I thought my daughter was ready (around 26 months), we went to the toilet every 10 minutes – even if we were out. We slowly worked up to 15 minutes, 20 minutes, etc., and after a day or two, she could pee on her own. Poop was a different story – I had to goad her with M&M’s…

  9. My son is currently refusing to where pants or use his potty. I’m just hoping that one morning he’ll wake up and change his mind!

  10. We had a musical potty , pee and it played music , my granddaughter would just go and sit on it hoping it would play the music she soon worked out what to do

  11. I’ve never had to do potty training (we adopted). But this prize would be ideal when I help potty train my first grandchild

  12. With my son the old advice that there’s no point trying until they’re 100% ready was true, I’m hoping, with my daughter, that the old advice that girls are easier to potty train, holds true!

  13. It took my eldest daughter years to be potty trained but we got there in the end- luckily my second child was a lot easier – fingers crossed for the third one!

  14. Good to read so many comments about how ‘late’ some children seem to be and to wait until they are ready. My little boy has just past 3 and doesn’t seem keen to say the least – infact he’s quite against the thought of using the potty at the moment no matter how we try to encourage him.

  16. I thought my eldest was doing ok then he peed in his buggy and a trail followed us round Boots. Never mind they get there in the end

  17. With my eldest he just pooed anywhere – the landing, the garden, ugh! Got to do one more child then done.

FYI I don’t think you’re asking people to follow the correct twitter account for huggies x

  18. I have never seen so much poo come out of such a small person (my friend’s little boy) … and why do they always need a poo when aunty Amber is babysitting solo?!!!

  19. You need so much patience, it is really easy to crack especially when you child seems to get it for a few days then suddenly relapses!

  20. be prepared for your sofa to be peed on a lot. my middle daughter would get so distracted playing she would just sit there and wee.

  21. It’s a cliche, but true – all children are different and this definitely applies to potty training. My son was very easy to potty train, he was very keen and the whole process was very short with a minimum of accidents. With my daughter it was an uphill slog. None of the tricks and reinforcement I had tried with my son worked with her. It took ages to get her trained during the day, and even longer for her to stop wetting the bed at night.

  25. Always be prepared for little boys to piddle everywhere around the loo and rarely actually hit the target! Lots of disinfectant and cloths to clean up!

  26. my fully pottery trained 3 year old daughter popped right in the middle of our living room just seconds before my new neighbour came over for tea. I did not notice until my neighbour stepped in it, in her flipflops! TRUE STORY! I still have flash back!

  27. don’t put pressure on your children as they can sense your tension and this will stress them. They will potty train in there own time,

  28. My first two experiences of potty training were awful. Finally after trying everything under the sun, it was a combination of bribery, a sticker chart, a fancy potty, lots of books about potty training and incredible patience were what finally worked.
I’m hoping my attempts with my third child will be more successful but we shall see!

  29. We have just let my now 4 year old do it in his own time and he decided that was 3 1/2. No fuss, no worry and minimal accidents.

  30. Our little one is only 18 months old but I will start putting a potty out soon so he gets used to sitting on it with his nappy on first. I learned from my older 2 that patience makes the whole thing much easier. Let them use it when they’re ready.

  31. Potty training ahhhhh! just got through it with the first and soon it will be time to start all over again with the second! Thus time I’m not going to push until he is ready and not stress about what other people say!

  33. I have just started…. The potty already has a giant crack in it and my wee boy thinks that shaking it means sprinkling over every bathroom surface!

  34. I have all that coming very soon, but my approach to potty training will definitely be to use positive reinforcement wherever possible, be patient and keep at it! It’s not going to happen over night, and there will ve accidents, but I know we will get there in the end 🙂

  35. My eldest two girls took very different times to potty train. Whilst my first was very quick to learn, my second daughter took a lot longer. The moral of this is to be patient and stick with it. Kids are all different and will do things at different speeds.
