Sonic Boom: Fire & Ice Review

I was brought up with Sonic the Hedgehog on the Sega Mega Drive (remember them?).

Now, the iconic ‘blue blur’, Sonic the Hedgehog, is racing once again in Sonic Boom: Fire & Ice and we were sent a copy to put through its paces.

The game features the now infamous Sonic, as well as friends Tails, Knuckles, Amy and Sticks.

Sonic Boom: Fire & Ice is a single-player game on the Nintendo 3DS. You will find Sonic and his friends in familiar settings as they embark on a brand new adventure to battle Dr. Eggman as well as an all-new super villain, D-Fekt which were Isaac’s highlights of the game.

The game has lots of checkpoints which is perfect for Isaac who can save the game as he goes along without having to go back and restart large sections. He gets really frustrated by games where you have to repeat large portions of the game. It also features Sonic’s life preserving ring system and the familiar “Ping Ping Ping” as you collect them, which really helps in tricky moments by repositioning you at a point just before the trouble that caused a hit.

The team’s adventures bring the characters to locations both familiar and new as they explore, race and protect their world. The game infuses fire and ice elements throughout gameplay, enabling new abilities to play out in special character moves and interactions with environments.

Sonic Boom: Fire & Ice enables players to run through the game at top speed, or take your time with deeper exploration and puzzle play. I am not sure being able to race through the game at top speed is the best move as it meant Isaac has completed it already and no longer wants to play it, moving on to another game within a couple of weeks, however Kian has been enjoying some of the puzzle play (when Isaac isn’t looking that is).

If you are looking for a high-speed fun classic platform game, then this is for you.
