Interplay Pocket Microscope Review #30DaysWild

Ever since Isaac’s friend Charlie took his pocket microscope to Avon Heath Isaac has wanted one and on that trip they found all sorts of creatures on the heath including bullet ants, damsel flies and spiders.

We are taking part in the #30dayswild challenge so when Interplay offered us the Pocket Microscope to review I jumped at the chance and it was the best decision I have made.

This June the #30dayswild challenge is about doing something wild every day for a month. No matter where you live – from an urban jungle to a windswept mountain – wildlife and wild places are all around, waiting to be discovered by you. As soon as Isaac is up and dressed in the morning, he has his collection pots in hand and heads into the garden to see what creatures are living in the bug house they have made.

Interplay Pocket Microscope

The pocket microscope, which takes two AA batteries, is small enough to fit in your pocket, but powerful enough to make an ant look the size of an antelope and magnifies 30 times using precision optics. To use it you unfold the microscope and the light will automatically illuminate the area in front of the lens, so that whether you are interested in nature studies, or crime-solving, it is an invaluable companion!

The microscope also comes with sample slides and all you need to make your own slides, plus a colourful manual gives helpful hints about how to get a close up view of just about anything and has some fascinating facts too.

The pocket microscope works indoors and outdoors and specimens do not need to be mounted onto slides, but do be aware that eager small people will be bringing woodlice, spiders, flies etc in the house and thrusting them under your nose frequently – thankfully the frog stayed outside!

Isaac now prefers bug hunting in the garden to computer games and any toy that can do that is a winner in my eyes and for an RRP of £9.99 it is a bargain too!

  1. That’s a really cool pocket microscope. Would love to get one for T too, especially since there are loads of little creatures and other stuff she can find in the garden to peer at under a microscope 😉 x
