Baby Proofing the Home

From the moment those two blue lines appear on a stick, babies change your lives in many ways both mentally and physically.

Nothing prepares you for the moment you first hold them in your arms and that rush of love that comes with it and then moments later that rush of panic as this small person is yours to keep and look after.

Initial fears of hurting them when changing their nappy and clothes or them wriggling out of your arms whilst bathing them are soon replaced with fears for their health and safety when they start moving.

Babies are out to challenge you when it comes to all of the strange places they find themselves and the mischief they can get up to as they grow. We always joke that when they start moving, everything goes up a level and it is easy to miss things that are away from our eye level.

My biggest tip when baby proofing your home is to lay on the floor and see what your baby can see. It is a real eye opener and you can see why that iPhone cable hidden under the table, or a plug socket suddenly becomes a source of fascination for a baby. We even had to remove the fake coals from the fireplace in our house!

The team at Sunlife have put together a Baby-Proofing Guide full of great tips for baby (and toddler proofing your home). Be prepared for a few years of stairgates at every doorway and childproof locks on cupboard doors. I for one, cannot wait until we can start taking them down but they do keep little ones safe and sound.
