We’re Huggies® Pull-Ups® Ambassadors!

Potty training is my least favourite parenting trial – FACT!

You would think that the fact I have done it five times already would make me a dab hand at it, but, every child is different and throw up their own set of problems.

Eliza took to it really well but Isaac was a whole different kettle of fish and refused point-blank to do a number two on either the toilet or the potty. Now it is Sebby’s turn.

We attempted potty training back at Easter at the optimum age of 2 years 9 months but the howling every time we even showed him a potty made us realise he just was not ready. We re-started the potty training process three weeks ago when we were predicted a week of rain as I thought it would be a good time to stay at home and start the process.

The first week was a bit hit and miss. He is brilliant at wee-wee’s when he is naked but add a pair of pants or a pull-up into the mix and he forgot and would announce he needed a wee as he was going.

He adores Disney Cars so I found a sticker reward chart online and printed it off, promising him a small gift for his first wee, his first poo and then his first dry day etc. This seems to have done the trick and he is busy earning his toys which had me searching eBay as he really wanted Monster Truck Mater and Frightening McMean from Carstoons.

Now he has almost mastered potty training at home, in week two it was time to take him out. He did really well at pre-school but even a short school run saw an accident and we had our first poo which left him a bit shell-shocked and reluctant to do it again. In fact he now always seems to do it when he has his night-time pull up on in the morning.

Potty Training

In week 3 we have managed short car journeys, always have our portable potty on hand and have a ruck-sack full of clean clothes on hand so the old redundant changing bag is back with a vengeance. We have by no means mastered the process although there are now far more successes than accidents and we have even managed some close-by days out, one which did result in hanging him over a drain after I forgot the travel potty (lessons learned).
