With love and room to play, they will be ready!

Where has this year gone?

We are fast approaching the month of June which means that it is only 3 months until the next wave of children start their journey into school life.

Although we have another year to go until Sebastian starts Reception, he will be joining Eliza and Isaac in their school as part of the school Nursery from September and today we had our first meeting with his teacher to begin the transition.

Sebastian adores pre-school and his speech has come on a long way since he started. He has made some firm friends and I am relieved that some of them will be heading over with him.

From my work with the school, Sebastian is almost always with me so all the teachers know him, he knows his way around the school better than I do and I am confident that he will settle quickly knowing his big brother and sister are close by.

Sending your little one to school for the first time is a nerve-wracking experience, it is the end of an era and the beginning of an exciting new one and it is best to start preparing your child now by making it sound like it is going to be fun and exciting. In Reception year they still follow the EYFS and learn through play like they do in Nursery School so it is not as scary a transition as some fear.

Eliza is in Reception and only this week Eliza was playing the mud kitchen and came home caked from head to toe in mud, despite wearing protective clothing, but on the other hand her reading and writing have come on leaps and bounds and she is so excited about what she has learned every day.

You may get invited to visit the school and the teacher so it is best to write all your questions down as it is easy for your mind to go blank. Any worries or fears then speak to the teacher out of earshot of your child as if they think you are worried they will naturally pick up on it and start worrying themselves.

To help prepare them for school, involve them in buying their uniform and book bag. Perhaps you could role play teacher / pupils or have play dates with children who will be starting with them.

With love and room to play, they will be ready.
