Clearing out the clutter

Do you ever get to the stage where you just cannot stand the state of the kids rooms and just clear it out yourself instead of making them do it?

That was me this week!

I was so fed up of asking them to clear their rooms and just watching them push the clothes in the corner, or hiding odd socks in the toy box that I decided to clear the rooms myself.

It took me a good three hours to do two bedrooms but I felt so much better afterwards. I even cleared out their drawers and filled four large sacks with old clothes and a sack of teddies that I have just taken to the charity shop. I even found clothes age 10-11 of Kian’s – he is 15!!

I have given up selling on eBay now as clothing either goes for a pittance or it gets posted and “doesn’t arrive” and you have to do a refund, cash for clothes is almost an insult too – here is £2.35 for four bags of clothes, so the charity shop it is, in the hope that they will get a decent amount of money for something.

The trouble is, I have cleared out so many old clothes that, Kian especially, needs some more. The poor boy has literally been recycling three t-shirts, a couple jumpers and a pair of jeans that he got for Christmas. He is at the age where I cannot get away with a job lot of t-shirts from Primarni, so I am going to be busy raiding the sales for some smart new designer t-shirts and a couple of pairs of jeans. Thankfully he now fits men size rather than that awkward inbetween stage.

They have been threatened that if they don’t keep their bedrooms tidy that I will be deducting pocket money, but its already started to slip.

I need to blitz the playroom now, wish me luck!

  1. Good luck! I take everything to the charity shop as well it’s just easier. It’s just so difficult to keep on top of the clutter isn’t it! xx

  2. It’s always nice to have a clear out once in awhile. I do Blake’s room regularly because of having to change around his clothes as he grows out of them so fast.

  3. I’ve been wondering the same thing about my daughter’s clothes. Some of them have been hardly used, especially dresses and did think about selling them on eBay too. But never really bothered. What to do with them? Might just end up in Charity shops I guess. x

  4. Oh PLEASE come to my house! I so need to do this. Luke is at that in between stage too – boys clothes aren’t big enough and he is too slight for mens. He wears a handful of clothes too – it must be a boy thing. Kaz x

  6. This is exactly what we have planned for this weekend. Our girls are 3 and 4 but have toys and some clothes which they’ve long outgrown. A big clearance and then a trip to the charity shop is in order 🙂
