Legend of Zelda – Tri-Force Heroes

Kian was never really in to the Legend of Zelda games until we went to a Nintendo event last year and he got to try one out for himself, which he really enjoyed playing.

Our Nintendo 3DS has been packed away hardly touched over the summer, but now that the nights are drawing in it has been dug out and charged and is being used again daily by either Isaac or Kian and more so since we were sent Legend of Zelda – Tri-Force Heroes to review.

Legend of Zelda – Tri-Force Hero is a whole new adventure to save a princess from an evil witch’s curse by getting three friends team up – each as Link in a different colour – to cooperatively make their way through inventive dungeons and battle bosses. You can team up with two other players in multiplayer mode via local wireless connection, online or with Download Play.

The game can be played on two modes:

  • Single Player (you switch between & control all the characters yourself)
  • Local Multiplayer (people within range of the 3DS/device). For local multiplayer ONLY ONE person needs to buy the game, the other two can use download play to play the full game!

The game is very tricky to play in single player mode, so Kian prefers to play with friends online. Communication between them is limited to a group of emoticon/directive images on the lower screen such as ‘over here’, ‘item’, ‘confused face’, ‘happy face’, ‘cheer’, ‘nooo’ etc.

Each level is filled with traps and puzzles and all three players share hearts, so they must work together and defeat enemies and solve puzzles! The three players, controlling one Link each, help each other on the adventure by stacking themselves together into a ‘Totem’ to reach higher areas, changing into different costumes, which give unique abilities to match the level, or simply by using different items. Kian finds it easier playing with friends as they all share a common goal.

You can use the loot you collect to create wearable outfits, each with a different boost or ability.
