Alton Towers
If you fancy trying out some thrilling rides, then a trip to Alton Towers in Staffordshire is for you. As well as the major rides, such as Nemesis and Air, there is also CBeebies Land for younger visitors and those who prefer a gentler pace.
The Forbidden Corner
Nestled in the stunning Yorkshire Dales is The Forbidden Corner, which probably ranks as one of the strangest attractions in the country. It consists of myriad tunnels, follies and chambers for visitors to explore, spread across four acres. There are many challenges and surprises along the way to entertain visitors of all ages.
The Grand National
If you’re looking for an exciting sporting event that is suitable for all the family, then the Grand National is ideal. This takes place every year at Aintree in Liverpool, and the 2016 race will be run on 9 April. You can check out the Grand National 2016 runners and there is plenty to do in between the racing to keep everyone occupied. There is a range of different areas to view the race from – on Grand National Day the Steeplechase Enclosure gives a great view of the early fences and has a more relaxed dress code than other areas.
Beamish Museum
The UK has some excellent museums, but for those who want to get a hands-on experience of the past, Beamish in County Durham puts you right at the heart of village life. This 300 acre working museum transports you back in time with trams from the early 20th century, the opportunity to go down the mine, a chance to take part in a school lesson and demonstrations of how sweets and bread were once made.
Longleat Safari Park
Longleat in Wiltshire gives you the opportunity to see some amazing species wandering free in the game reserve. This includes monkeys, giraffes, lions, rhinos and camels. A day at Longleat also enables you to tour the 16th century house, play in the adventure playground and ride on the miniature railway.
The London Dungeon
Prepare to be scared at one of London’s top attractions. The London Dungeon combines rides, special effects and live action to bring a gruesome past to visitors. It takes you through the sights and smells of 1,000 years of London history, including Jack the Ripper, Sweeney Todd and the plague.
The Eden Project
This attraction in Cornwall takes you through various biomes that give a fun but educational experience for visitors. You can walk through a rainforest ecosystem, a Mediterranean world and go across the rainforest canopy walkway to see exactly how much the natural world has to offer us.
