Pebli Town Review

I am not a massive fan of using our iPad as a stand alone toy for the children, as I find that prolonged play can really effect their mood, so when I was approached to review Pebli Town I did hesitate at accepting it, however, upon further investigation I though that it would really help the kids with imaginative play.

Pebli Town uses fun traditional play pieces and a physical play board that interact with a tablet (Apple and Android) to bring the toy to life.

Pebli Town comes with 4 exciting interactive game modes; Story Teller, Games, Story Creator and Video Room. The board uses hot spot technology, which means that any actions on the board are translated to the tablet. 99% of all game play is done on the board with the physical characters, so children don’t have to directly interact with the tablet.

Pebli Town is designed to develop children’s creativity, imagination, problem solving, vocabulary, hand eye coordination, focus and attention and is aimed at children aged 3-6.

Setting up Pebli Town was really easy, just pop the cardboard scene on the board and add the characters. Pebli Town runs off bluetooth and connects to your phone or tablet using the free to download Pebli Town App.

Pebli Town

Pebli Town comes with four character figures Painter Poppy, Chef Charlie, Firemen Freddy and Doctor Daisy. It also comes with four buildings which includes the School House, Shop, Park and Town Hall which are all colour coded so you know where to put them.

At 2 Sebby is a little young for this game, but he was keen to test it out with Isaac and they played really well together. The app talks to them and initially we were introduced to each character. The app talks in a British accent which is a refreshing change from most Americanised toys these days and the boys were soon stuck into a game.

Fireman Freddy had lost something and needed to go and get it, but where from? The app told the boys where to move Fireman Freddy in order to collect it and soon they were moving around the board to get more and more items.

For the next game they had to help Chef Charlie decide what to cook and get his ingredients. It really is a fun game to play and although Sebby needs help to play it, Eliza and Isaac are more than willing to join in.

Pebli Town has four play modes; Story, Games, Create and Videos.
• Story mode – 4 interactive stories with 22 alternative endings that the children can control as they play.
• Game mode – 4 different games with 25 levels each which test problem solving and attention to detail.
• Create mode – Create your own stories using the characters, record their voices and adding special effects before watching it all back in the Pebli cinema.
• Video mode – Access 200 videos (wifi needed).

  1. I’m like you and a little wary of apps for kids although I’ve never seen an app that has an interactive board to go with it which I kind of warm a little towards as it’s not full on screen time .

  3. Oh my goodness, everything seems so complicated to me but then,I’m the grandma and I don’t need to know how to work this. What I liked about the review was the fact that you hold the same concerns as I do,worrying about children playing with iPads or Tablets. This seems to be fun and educational and, as with everything, in small doses and controlled there is a place for this.Thank you for the review, now I just have to try and win it !

  8. There are so many apps for children now that are purely digital, it’s great that the majority of play is actually with physical toys!

  11. Like you, I am dubious about too much tablet-play, but it sounds like it is far more interactive than most. I love that there are British accents instead of American, as that is something that automatically puts me off purchasing something. Thanks for a great review.
