Krill Oil – the tested natural treatment for premenstrual symptoms

Since stopping breastfeeding Sebastian my monthly cycle has been back with a vengeance. In fact it is now so bad that I have been to see the GP about it and I am awaiting some tests.

In a way I have been very lucky, because I breastfed the little ones so long I had a few years off having periods but one thing I have noticed since they are back is the PMS is back too.

What is PMS:  who suffers from it?

During a woman’s fertile years of life, her body undergoes hormonal changes that occur on a monthly cycle, often triggering changes in mood and vitality. According to the NHS, nearly all women of childbearing age experience some premenstrual symptoms.

What are ‘typical’ symptoms of PMS?

Typical symptoms of PMS include decreased energy, tension, irritability, depression, headache, altered sex drive, breast pain, backache, abdominal pain, bloating and water retention.

PMS isn’t the same for every woman. For some women symptoms will be relatively mild but for an estimated 5% of women PMS symptoms vary widely from woman to woman,  Some experience PMS as just one or two mild symptoms, whereas an estimated 5% of women will have combinations of a range of over 100 different emotional and physical symptoms that can severely disrupt their quality life.

My symptoms include mood swings, bloating and water retention. In fact my husband always knows when it is that time as the smallest thing will set me off.

A couple of months ago an interesting email dropped into my in box, asking if I would like to try Krill oil which can help women with PMS to simply and naturally, reduce the severity of their monthly symptoms.

How can Cleanmarine Krill Oil help alleviate the symptoms of PMS?

Krill oil provides two omega-3 essential fatty acids, (EPA eicosapentaenoic acid and DHA docosahexaenoic acid). High levels of these omega-3 fatty acids can help the body to regulate hormonal imbalances and can effectively ‘switch off’ premenstrual pain, inflammation, bloating, breast pain, headaches, anxiety, nervousness, depression and cravings.

Cleanmarine Krill Oil for Women combines krill oil with other hormone balancing nutrients including soy isoflavones (a type of phytoestrogen) which has been found to ease premenstrual headaches, cramps and back pain.  It also includes rosemaryoil and vitamin D which both can help to lift depression, and vitamins B1, B2 and B6, which are all important for hormone balance, energy production and skin health.

Cleanmarine Krill Oil – Tried and Tested

The supplement was put to clinical tests in an in depth study overseen by Mike Wakeman from the University of Birmingham throughout 2013.  Over 90 days, 29 women who suffer with PMS received 2 capsules of Cleanmarine Krill Oil for Women. At the end of the three months there was an average of 69% improvement of symptoms.

At the top of the list was breast tenderness which improved by 81%, forgetfulness reduced by 77%, anxiety and headaches both reduced by 70%, bloating and skin outbreaks both improved by 69%, insomnia improved by 62%, fatigue by 60% and food cravings improved by 59%.

Why does it matter where the Omega 3 comes from?

People do not naturally produce omega 3 and need to get this into our system through our diet or supplements – natural sources high in omega 3 include fish, soy, kidney beans and walnuts.  Fish themselves don’t make omega 3 and they get this from their diet of krill, algae and plankton in the ocean.  By going direct to source and extracting the oil from krill rather than other fish ensures the fatty acids are in the phospholipid form rather than triglyceride form – enabling the body to absorb them more efficiently. This also helps to avoid the fishy aftertaste associated with other fish oils.

How can you reduce the symptoms of PMS?

Nutritional therapist Susie Perry Debice comments: “Since having my son 8 years ago, my PMS symptoms of migraine, headaches, insomnia and breast pain had increased to an uncomfortable level, despite my healthy diet and lifestyle. I started a project to research PMS and explored a number of supplements with differing results.  I even wrote a book on the subject! Yet within three months of taking Cleanmarine Krill Oil for Women my monthly symptoms were positively better.  My usual three nights of premenstrual insomnia was reduced to one, my headaches had greatly reduced in frequency and most incredibly my breast pain completely vanished.”

I cannot believe the change in me.  My moods are a lot calmer and I have had no bloating. Sadly it has no effect on the periods themselves but I feel happier and more positive about getting through the worst days.  My skin is looking loads better too which has also helped improve my confidence, plus there is no dodgy after taste that you sometimes get with fish oils.

I have got on so well with it I have already ordered my next pack!!

  1. This is a really interesting article, within a month of stopping breastfeeding with Jelly Bean my periods came back with a vengeance. I hadn’t suffered with my periods before being a Mum or after my first two were born and breastfed but with my third, I have been in excrutiating pain every single month and am also having tests. I shall definitely look into Krill Oil though, it’s got to be worth a shot.
