Rust-Oleum® Specialty Chalk Board Spray converts surfaces into a usable chalkboard and we were sent some to try.
It can be applied to metal, wood, plastic, hardboard, glass or paperboard so the choices are endless but we opted to use a piece of MDF that had been nailed to the wall in the garden to protect the brickwork by the previous owners who owned a punch bag. We never got around to taking it down so it seemed right to make it a useable plaything for the kids.
We waited for a still, dry day to spray the board and set to work. The spray went on evenly, although I would recommend you do it outside as it has quite a strong smell to it. The spray was touch dry within 30 minutes however it is recommended you leave for 24 hours to dry thoroughly.
Priced at just £9.49 it is a really inexpensive way of turning almost anything into a useable chalkboard and it has transformed an unused wall into something fun for the kids.
I’ve been thinking of making some chalkboards but wasn’t sure about what paint to get. Thanks for sharing this.
Ooh I’ll have to have a look for some of this as I was just thinking about making a chalk board for Bugs the other day 🙂
Ah my husband was talking about this just the other day – is it really good then?
Really pleased with the results Joy xx
Wow its a like a miracle board in a can. The results are impressive, the blackboard looks great. Also its fabulous if you want to keep the munchkins entertained, great for the outside too, jazzing up old walls. Thank you x
This is such a good idea! I’d love to make something like that for my boy! xx
Brilliant idea, perfect for sunny days to keep the kids busy. I will have to get some of this 🙂 x
I did it the hard way with a paint brush and tin of paint 🙂 A spray looks so much easier. Either way, the products are fun to use.
This is so brilliant, I need some for work so I can use it for my to do list instead of paper x
