Bring colouring to life with Colour Alive!

We were very excited to be sent the brand new Colour Alive colouring books to try.

Colour Alive is a revolutionary new way to breathe augmented life into works of art, Crayola Colour Alive enables children to experience the wonder and magic of seeing their creations jump off the page as interactive 4D images!

An all new way to create, Colour Alive takes a child’s creativity into the digital world and merges the wonder of drawing and colouring with a virtual App-linked virtual experience.

Simply download the free Colour Alive App on any iOS or Android portable device then aim the device’s camera at the coloured page to bring the drawing to life in a child’s own surroundings. The included Colour Alive Markers transform colouring by activating special effects through drawing on the page, in real-time.  Children can also interact and take photos with the colouring book characters then are able to store and collect their creations to play with later!

The kids could not wait to get started and busily started colouring their favourite pictures from their books – Themed Mythical Creatures for Isaac and Enchanted Garden for Eliza.  The packs contain 16 Colour Alive colouring pages, 6 Colour Alive markers and the addition of a new colour in each set: Pixie Dust or Fire Breath are all you need to get started on an incredible creative journey.

I downloaded the app onto our iPad and have to admit getting very frustrated with it as we just could not get it to work.  The idea is you hold the ipad over the picture and it should register it’s there and brings up a button which makes the colourings come alive.  The app store does say that it will work with our version of the iPad and it has been fully updated, but even hubby has tried with no success.**

We did have more luck with my phone, although it was a bit hit and miss at first we soon got the hang of it.

Once the characters have been coloured in and brought to life, you can save them to the app so the kids can play with them at a later date and you can download and print new pages from the app too.

** I went to the Gadget Show and met the Colour Alive team on their stand.  They gave me a fab tip – scan the picture before your child colours it and it will recognise it quicker.  Low and behold it now works on my iPad.  They have also updated their android app so the colouring books are already uploaded and you select which colouring book you are using which makes the whole process a lot quicker.  The iOS system update is coming soon.

Available Summer 2015 from leading retailers nationwide for RRP £6.99 each pack, Crayola Colour Alive is set to ignite a child’s creativity via an innovative offline and online play experience through color and 4D technology, allowing them to bring their colouring to life.  For fans of all things Barbie, there will also be a Colour Alive Barbie Show Stopper kit (RRP £6.99) which will include everything fans of the ever-popular doll need to bring her to life and Skylanders for the boys!!
