Thomas has made many friends and been on many adventures over the years and in 2015, Thomas & Friends™ is 70 years young!
Based on stories of the railways, Thomas & Friends invites children to enter a world of imagination on the island of Sodor which is an idealised world created by the Reverend W. Awdry, where trains are powered by steam… and they talk! With a strong community ethos typified by a universal willingness to help, practice good manners and hard work, Thomas and his friends continue to inspire, excite and entertain children for 70 years and beyond.
Friendship remains at the heart of the brand with more engaging storytelling, more dynamic and compelling content and a whole host of new adventures for Thomas & Friends this year. As well as the launch of series 19 which features the No.1 Blue engine and his familiar friends James, Percy, Emily, Edward, Henry, Gordon, and the Fat Controller, this exciting milestone year sees the release of the mini-series Dinos & Discoveries as well as the new movie Sodor’s Legend of the Lost Treasure.
As children embark on fun and exciting journeys with their engine friends, adventures unfold that lead to timeless fun and discovery.
Kian was our Thomas mad child and he can still name all of the engines by sight. He has a huge collection of trains and track that we could never bring ourselves to part with and it has been stored in the loft in the hope that one of the other children would fall in love with Thomas. The craze by-passed Isaac and Eliza but Sebby adores Thomas, so when we were offered the Thomas & Friends Motorized Playset to review we jumped at the chance.
Watch out, Thomas – the bridge is damaged!
With this set we can expand our Thomas & Friends™ motorised railway that we had with Kian with the TrackMaster™ Breakaway Bridge Set!
It is super simple to build and comes with a battery operated Thomas train who needs to navigate a risky section of track to complete his journey across the crumbling bridge! Sebastian and Eliza both love watching him speed around the sharp curve, balancing on a single rail as half his wheels come off the track! Can he accomplish this daring feat without falling?
Sebastian not only enjoys watching Thomas racing around the track, but also loves to switch him on and off and letting the train work its way around the lounge. I know he will have hours of fun with this and cannot wait to get Kian’s old sets down from the loft and build a huge track all around the lounge!
We were also sent the Pop N Go Thomas Corn Popper® Toy Train.
Pop & Go Thomas from Fisher-Price offers a Thomas twist on a classic, tried-and-true toddler toy! Shaped just like the No. 1 blue engine, this popper lets Sebastian use the handle to push Thomas around as the brightly coloured balls create a fun, stimulating experience as they bounce and pop inside.
When Sebby is bigger I can simply remove the handle to let him play with the large, chunky Thomas toy train instead. It is a great toy for encouraging physical activity as he loves charging around the lounge giggling with joy as the balls jump up and down.
Happy Birthday Thomas – here’s to the next 70 years!
My mother-in-law was a childhood friend of the author’s children. In the church there is even an Thomas stained glass window.
70 years already?!
I like the idea of the motorised track, but I think I would soon chuck the Pop n Go out for the noise it makes. Saying that Sebby is obviously enjoying it.
My boy would love the train track, he’s Thomas mad! xx
My two children love the Thomas track master train sets too. The only moan I have about them is that they’ve changed the track so older playsets can’t be joined onto newer ones – boo!
That motorised play set looks fantastic, i adore Thomas and its a good job as its one of Joshua’s fave too!
Harry adores Thomas the tank engine and actually Emmy does just as much
wow it’s amazing Thomas has been going on so long! such a classic, my son love him x
