Last Friday a brand new show launched on Nick Jr called Blaze and the Monster Machines and we were invited to take part in a twitter party to celebrate.
Blaze and the Monster Machines follows the amazing monster truck Blaze and his eight year old driver AJ. Together , Blaze and AJ have adventures that explore the physics of how things move; tackle problems through scientific inquiry and mathematics; and discover the parts needed to make everyday technologies work.
The show is aimed at 2 to 5 year olds but we had a mixture of children here from 20 months to 8 years and they all enjoyed the action packed first two episodes as well as taking part in some fun scientific challenges.
Our first activity was Crushers maze and the older kids sped through that, itching to try the next one which involved creating their very own Sweetie Blaze Monster Truck. We had milky bars, smarties, jelly babies and icing to complete the task and they took great care in making their trucks before getting to enjoy the rewards and eating them!
For our next activity we got cutting, sticking and gluing and made our very own cardboard box Blaze Monster Cars. I have to admit that the girls attempt was more art based than functional but the boys did make one with working wheels. Sadly it was a little too heavy to be propelled by balloon power but the fact that it worked as a vehicle mean’t they were the winners of this challenge.
The Maths activity saw Megan taking over and she speedily sorted all the buttons into their shapes, however it was clear that they were desperate to try the next activity – well it did involve a bucket of water!!
The Sink and Float Test proved to be lots of fun and it was boys vs girls. We had corks, bottle tops, stones, toy cars, peppers, potatoes, plastic balls, plastic cutlery, metal cutlery, sticks and bath toys for this challenge and we wrote down what we thought each item would do – sink or float. The girls were over the moon that they won this challenge and there was definitely lots of laughter that went with this game (and a wet floor).
Our final activity was a science one and we had the equipment to make a tornado! Kian took over for this one and helped each member if the party make their very own Tornado – safely contained in a bottle of course!
We’ve made a tornado!! #cool #NickJrBlaze
Blaze and the Monster Machines will be back on Nick Jr every week day at 4pm (Sky 615, Virgin 715, Talk Talk 559) so tune in for lots more fun and you can also check out Nick Jr. for more fun Blaze and the Monster Machines activities and games.
We had a great time thanks for inviting us! Olive has already made a plasticine TMNT collection!
Now this sounds such fun! I love the idea of making a tornado 😀 x
This looks like so much fun! xxx
My boys have quickly become Blaze fans – another programme that means I can’t watch Donut Showdown! 😉
i managed to get on Twitter a little for it but couldnt stay too long. It looked like you all had loads of fun!
Sounds fantastic especially if it gets kids and families investigating science projects at home
Ooh this looked really good damn I missed it.
Looks like you guys had fun
