I like to think I am quite good at making decisions – years of having to think on your feet at work has definitely helped in that respect.
It wasn’t always that way though!
Looking back at my teenage and young adult years I did make some pretty ropey decisions, which although put me through a hideous period of my life, also made me who I am today and that is certainly someone who doesn’t make decisions lightly.
I am a big fan of writing a pro’s and cons list, however, I always go with my gut instinct in the end. Making decisions that involve the whole family can be more of a challenge though, as everyone has their own ideas and want to get things across – especially the older children!
I find it especially difficult when there are two families involved, with very different ideas of parenting. For one reason or another Callan made the decision he wanted to go and live with his Dad as he didn’t particularly get on with my husband, his step-dad. It was something I had to support and even he admits now, that a couple of years down the line, that the grass isn’t greener on the other side.
It has however improved his relationship with his step-dad as there are not constant daily battles, but on the other hand, it has caused friction with his step-mum.
As a parent it is hard to let your children grow up and make their own choices, especially if you believe they are the wrong ones, but it is something that everyone must do at some point and the kids will be thankful for it………eventually!
Great post. I know exactly what you mean, work decisions always seemed harder. I am learning I need to limit the time spent thinking about a decision, sometimes I put a timer on to force myself to make a decision, worry is such wasted energy! Love the new blog design, just gorgeous!
