Scottish Friendly launched the #ThriftyFamily campaign with Louie Spence this week. Over the coming weeks Louie will demonstrate some of his favourite money saving tips with a series of videos. These videos will be posted daily via Scottish Friendly’s Vine, Instagram and YouTube accounts.
Apart from posting Louie’s tips on their social channels, Scottish Friendly are wanting people to record their own money favourite money saving tips and share the video via their social channels (using the #thriftyfamily hashtag). The best tip will be awarded with a £100 My Rewards card prize at a glittering online ceremony on 25th September (full Ts & Cs here).
So what is my best thrifty tip?
Reward Card Points!
Yes that’s right – those annoying cards you have to get out when shopping that take up loads of room in your purse!
We have the Nectar, Boots, Superdrug, Clubcard varieties and save our points throughout the year to pay for Christmas.
I have noticed that the, supermarkets especially, have really reduced the number of points they give away in recent years – Tesco only gives 1 point for every £2 spent on petrol now, but they do double up their vouchers at Christmas and despite shopping around I normally save about £100 each with Sainsbury’s Nectar and Tesco Clubcard.
Many people don’t know this, but you can get Nectar points for shopping at numerous online stores – just check the Nectar website for the current list, but it includes eBay, Next, Argos, Homebase and many, many more.
You can also use Tesco Clubcard points on days out, which can make it an afforable way to pay for those theme park tickets!
