The Sparkup Magical Book Reader is a revolutionary device that clips directly on to any picture book and reads it aloud in your voice. You can record the book yourself, in any language, and add your own personal touches or download professionally recorded stories, complete with sound effects, directly from the Sparkup website via the USB cable which is included.
While recording, Sparkup’s tiny camera takes a picture of the book’s front cover and each page. Later on, when a child connects Sparkup to the book, Sparkup immediately recognizes its front cover. Sparkup follows the child’s pace and reads aloud as he or she turns the pages – even out-of-order.
It is incredibly easy to use and literally talks you through the process step by step, giving you the opportunity to go back and re-read the page if you make a mistake and as Sparkup can store up to 250 minutes of audio (approximately 50 recorded storybooks) you can record almost every book you own!
You can also transfer files onto your computer to make room for more recordings on Sparkup – perhaps have Nanny and Grandad record some or Daddy if he works away a lot.
It clips neatly over the back of most books, although it is a bit tight on hardback books. You then press the record button to when you read the first page, followed by the green central button when you finish the page. You then repeat this for the rest of the book. Sparkup uses a camera to identify each page of the book and will then read the book back to the child / children, choosing the correct page they are on – even if they miss one!
I have to admit, I prefer reading books to the children “live” as we make up funny voices and talk about the pictures but this is a great idea for parents that work away a lot. Isaac likes to pick it up and read the stories alongside my voice, which is great reading practice for him too.
What a fun gadget! My brother is a little gadget freak so he would love to have one!
Great idea that it goes on any book. We have The night before Christmas that mr hubby recored for Baby’s 1st xmas, they we will read every year x
I’ve never heard of anything like this before. Sounds very different.
I think this would be great for families where parents can not read books to kids each night due to other commitments
Ooo I love this idea! Why wasn’t this invented when my son was small? It’s brilliant if you can’t tuck them in for some reason
That does sound like an excellent idea! Perfect to free up the parent for a few minutes and get the little ones reading.
