I was first introduced to the Gigsak ® when I met it’s creator Lyn at a local networking event earlier this year and was immediately intrigued by the idea of the picnic blanket with a difference.
When folded up the Gigsak just looks like any other picnic blanket with waterproof backing and it has both a hand handle and a shoulder strap for easy carrying. On hot sunny days, the Gigsak can be used like a normal picnic rug but, living in the UK it’s not always hot sunny weather we get at picnic’s or outdoor events and this is where the Gigsak comes into its own!
On cooler days, you can open a second layer of waterproof backing like a giant bag and climb inside to keep your legs warm and if the worst happens and it rains, you just turn the Gigsak inside out and you can sit inside it. The waterproof backing will provide shelter from a shower.
The Gigsak is simple to turn into a shelter – simply use the inside corner handles to turn it inside out. It’s big enough for 2 or 3 people to use in this way and convert it back to a picnic blanket when it stops raining.
The Gigsak waterproof material is the same as that used to make umbrella’s so it is very quick to dry. It also keeps little bottoms dry if the ground is particularly damp and is machine washable too – essential when you have kids. At a size of 170 x 130 cm its is big enough for a family picnic too.
We have used our Gigsak a few times now and it is fabulous. I opted for the funky pink daisy design but if you prefer something a little less bright it is also available in a green and burgundy plaid design with black backing.
We have also found another use for our Gigsak too – it’s perfect for an afternoon nap and I am sure this feature will come in very handy when we are at Camp Bestival.

I love how versatile it is and I’d go for the funky pink colour as well, it’s looks great 🙂
it not it’s!
What a brilliant product. We have a few picnics planned for the summer but don’t have a blanket sorted yet, this would be ideal!
This is such a versatile blanket, I really like it x
What a cute blanket and I really like that sand doesn’t look like it would stick on it.
I love this – I want one as it would be perfect for us x
Sounds like a really good picnic blanket! And with those features it would be very handy here also!
I could do with one of those in a couple of weeks when we go to Northumberland.
That is perfect for days out.
That’s genius! I’ve definitely been in situations where the raincover option would be useful. Fun video too.
what a great blanket! think i need one
What a brilliant blanket! We really need to get a blanket, we always and up having to take one of the kids bigger blankets if we go out for a picnic!
Thanks for the review. I’d never heard of a picnic blanket with all these extras.
What a fun idea!
This sounds like a great summer must have! Love the colour too
That sounds perfect for the British summer when sunshine can turn to showers in a matter of minutes.
This sounds really useful for all of our days out this summer and camping trips. I love the pretty floral print too x

These are fantastic! I love the colours, they really stand out and the sizing is good. Great review.
