Bissell Powerwash Lift Off Review

A couple of years ago we replaced our hall, stairs and landing carpet and despite it being recommended as a carpet suitable for high traffic areas it has been a nightmare to keep clean, despite me insisting on no shoes upstairs.  The carpet was starting to look really grubby so when we were offered the Bissell Powerwash Lift Off to review, I jumped at the chance.

With 2 machines in 1, you get an upright carpet cleaner for entire rooms and a removable spot cleaner for stairs, upholstery, auto interiors, and other hard-to-reach areas – it sounded like just what we needed.

It also comes with:

  • Heatwave Technology® helps maintain constant water temperature throughout the cleaning process
  • 10 rows of cleaning, dual DirtLifter® PowerBrushes
  • Ready-to-use hose, tough stain tool, and crevice tool
  • 5-year warranty

The Bissell Powerwash Lift Off came boxed, but was easily set up by attaching the handle.  You then simply add hot water and the cleaning fluid and you are ready to go.

We started with the carpet in our bedroom.  This carpet was here and visibly old when we moved in 9 years ago but we have never got round to replacing it.  I made the most of hubby being home and left him to move the furniture and wash the carpets whilst I entertained the children downstairs.

It didn’t make much difference to the look of the carpet, however it was noticeably fresher and some of less ingrained marks did come away.

I was most looking forward to seeing the results on the newer hall, stairs and landing carpet.

The machine itself manoeuvres like a vacuum cleaner and I did find it quite heavy – you certainly work up a sweat cleaning the carpets, but that is to be expected as it holds 2.5L of water.  The easy-to-detach portable spot cleaner is great for spots and stains, stairs and upholstery and the hose allowed it to stretch the entire length of the stairs.

The Heatwave Technology® helps maintain constant water temperature throughout the cleaning process to help remove deep-down dirt with the 10 rows of dual DirtLifter® PowerBrushes. EdgeSweep® brushes clean against baseboards and Surround Suction® helps carpets dry fast.

How HeatWave Technology Works:

Heat from the machine’s motor is cleverly redirected into a vent that is located beneath the machine’s water tank to keep water at a constant cleaning temperature.

It also enters the brush chamber to help heat the brushes and carpet  to improve the cleaning process.

The results certainly weren’t perfect, however, it was an improvement on what the carpets looked like before hand.  There are a couple of spots that we need to go over again before we send the machine back.

The machine didn’t leave the carpets soggy and they were dry within 20 minutes.  The best results were on the newer carpets in the kids rooms.  Eliza was sick so we cleaned the area as usual with disinfectant and then went over it with the Powerwash – this is where it really stood out for me as it got rid of the marks and the smell instantly!

If I am completely honest the results weren’t amazing enough for me to warrant spending £449 (currently on offer at £299) on the machine.

  1. Wow it is expensive when it is full price! We do keep thinking of getting a cleaner but we have the storage problem. Luckily my mum and dad live down the road and we borrow theirs 🙂 x
