I was dreading Eliza’s pre-school booster jab today!
You would think I would be used to it, with her being my 5th child to have them done but there is something about the pre-school jab…….I think it is because they are more aware of what is happening and the fact that they have two separate injections seems a little cruel.
The pre-school booster is given to make sure that the vaccinations they had when they were babies will provide enough protection to last throughout their school years, so I felt it was vital that Eliza had them. The first injection protects her from Diptheria, Tetnus, Polio and Whooping Cough and the second is her MMR Booster (Measles, Mumps and Rubella).
I gave Eliza a dose of calpol an hour before we went, to take the edge of the pain. She did seem a little excited that we were off to the doctors, as she enjoys playing with the toys and when we arrived she was delighted when one of her pre-school friends was there too.
The nurse called us in and was bright and bubbly which put Eliza at ease. She told Eliza that she had done all her injections and remembered her as a baby as she settled her into position on my lap.
I popped her reward – a Barny cake, on the bed next to us and then we began. The nurse had already prepared the injections so it was all over very fast and Eliza was very brave. We had a few tears but Barny soon cured them as we waited for the red book to be filled in.
We walked home full of chatter about what she wanted to do in the afternoon and when we arrived she was met with lots of cuddles from her big brothers.
Give it two months and I will be back with Sebastian for his MMR!
I agree, that’s the worst injection. As babies they don’t know what’s going on and as teens they can reason through it logically and it’s not so bad.
I hate taking mine for injections too! Sounds as though she was very brave. My little Gwen always shrieks and howls when she has her done!
I hate taking mine for their injections! I actually found the pre school booster easier than the baby jabs as rewards for being good had more of an effect!
Oh I’ve always hated the injections….I’ve felt so horrible knowing I had taken them there to have the pain, but ultimately it was for the right reason and vaccinations are so important.
I hated taking my two for their injections too. A treat was always given afterwards and I can vaguely remember needing a stiff drink. I always felt sorry for the nurse who had to give it to them…..They looked at her with such hatred. xx
Having injections is never nice, and when you are little it must be awful. She sounds like she was brave though
I hated taking mine for their injections and usually got my mum or Ant to do it! Well done to Eliza for being brave 🙂
aw sounds like she was very brave! I remember taking my son and it was horrible I hate seeing him upset but they soon forget about it and i think we are more scarred from it than they are lol!!

Aww bless, sometimes I think things like jabs are way more traumatic for the parents to sit through! Glad she was ok! x
