We found where the Easter Bunny lives!

For Easter we normally do an egg hunt in our garden, but if you have seen our garden it is pretty sparse so the eggs always easy to find.

This year was different.

Our friends Dan and Jade from Studland Sea School have acquired some land in Wareham to host their Bushcrafting sessions and we were invited to their inaugural event – An Easter Egg Hunt but with a difference.

I was slightly worried when my satnav took me down a narrow country lane with what looked like nowhere to turn, but we soon found Dan waiting in his van to show us where to park and then set off with Team CharlieMoos to find the chocolate treasure.

Bushcrafting / Egg Hunt

Charlie was the first to find some eggs, which encouraged the rest of the children that there were more to find and each child managed to find two or three eggs each.  We even found the Easter Bunny’s house, but he was nowhere to be seen!

Why was this Easter Egg hunt different?

Not content with finding chocolate, there was much more fun to come…….

We built shelters!

The kids all took their jobs very seriously.  The younger ones collected wood whilst the older ones made the walls with sticks and secured the tarpaulins using new found skills.  The girls then took advantage and had rest in the newly build shelters – nothing to do with eating their chocolate haul ;0)

The stick collecting continued, but this time for a campfire.

Dan and Luke dug a small fire pit and got to work lighting the kindling that we had collected with some wax paper and a flint.  The fire took hold quickly and each child got a turn in learning how to build up the fire correctly before getting the chance to cook some marshmallows and making Smores.

Some of the kids broke off into a second group at this point and made some pendants with a silver birch branch.  Dan patiently helped each child saw off a circle and then drill a hole to thread the string through.  They then decorated them with some crayons which they had brought along.

It really was an Easter Egg Hunt with a difference and we all had a fantastic morning enjoying the great outdoors.  We even found a Funnel Web Spiders web and saw some deer!  Next year I have promised Sebastian that he will be able to join the hunt too!

  1. What a fantastic way to spend a day. It is great that you had so much space for the egg hunt and then got time to make dens and explore. Looks like you had the best of the weather too.

  3. Wow looks like such a great day out, I can’t wait until T is old enough to spend hours in the woods making dens and building fires, it’s one of the things I’m looking forward to the most!

  4. What a great setting for an egg hunt – if that’s wasn’t enough fun all the extra activities made a great morning of adventure for the children that they enjoyed with their families. I love the idea of teaching the children how to build a fire safely, thanks for linking up and sharing your fun with Country Kids.
