Stay In Devon asked us to make some #stayinhappybunnies Easter memories and sent a fabulous Make Your Own Easter Eggs kit.
Isaac couldn’t wait to get stuck in and I was shocked that the lure of chocolate didn’t interest Kian.
Inside we discovered some egg moulds, chocolate buttons and a little bag of sweets, as well as some step-by-step instructions and a master chocolatier hat.
The instructions were easy to follow. We put some sunflower oil on the moulds to make the chocolate shiny and then set about melting the chocolate buttons on a jug.
Isaac enjoyed mixing the chocolate to make it smooth and I am sure he was eating the melted chocolate every time I turned my back.
I knew the lure of chocolate would get Kian eventually and he soon appeared eager to help his little brother.
They had to leave the chocolate to set between layers and we ended up putting four layers in to make the eggs nice and thick. Once this was done we put them in the fridge to set.
I have to confess that the eggs may have had a little accident. I got them out to check on them and managed to drop a couple on the floor so they smashed meaning that we never got to make a whole egg. However, the boys weren’t too cross and still enjoyed eating the chocolate.
The surviving half looked fab on the outside, although in hindsight we used too much chocolate and it was a bit lumpy on the inside. Isaac enjoyed using the sweets to make a funny face.
What a lovely activity to do with kids (and adults) after all we all love chocolate!
Oh dear, what a shame but they look great and like they had a fantastic time making them.
We tried making them once, and had similar sort of accidents! They didnt look much like a shop bought one, but tasted good and we had fun doing it!
Lovely treat in time for Easter. I would love to try and make my own Easter Eggs but I am sure it would be a disaster.
As long as they enjoy the experience I guess that’s the main thing. I’m sure they will get plenty to eat x
Oh dear, such a shame some were ruined but it looks like you all had lots of fun making them and that’s the main thing. Such a great activity to do with the kids over Easter xxx
looks like you had fun!
This looks like so much fun. I really wanted to make my own chocolate eggs this year and ran out of time to organise it….but maybe it’s not too late?!

Oh the kids look like they had so much fun! x
Now that looks like delicious fun! x
Looks like great fun. Maybe we’ll get chance to do something like this next year when we have a kitchen again!
I used to love making our own Easter eggs as a kid. We also used to have only one side, but that was because we ate the other side rather than anything beyond our control!
We tried this too, it was so much harder than I thought!
Very cute. This has just reminded me I’ve still got Emmys chilling in the fridge. I totally forgot, whoops
Looks like a lot of fun… playing with chocolate always is, am I right?
