Last Friday we were invited to a very special event at Legoland Windsor – the launch of the new Duplo range.
Prior to the event Eliza had been sent some new Duplo to review and they were an instant hit as she could create the tastiest ice cream out of LEGO DUPLO bricks!
The set features a collection of colourful DUPLO brick scoops of tasty ice cream, fun toppings, and cones and it soon became a fun challenge to see who can make the biggest, tastiest, or craziest ice cream cone.
The Creative Ice Cream play set, part of the LEGO DUPLO range, features three ice cream cones, six coloured tops, blueberry brick, cream brick, and classic DUPLO bricks. LEGO DUPLO products are fun and safe for younger hands and can be used with older LEGO when its time to move up too.
We set of for Legoland full of excitement and thankfully the roads were clear and we got there in just over an hour and twenty minutes. There were squeals of excitement as they spotted the Lego models on the roundabout just before we pulled in.
We have been to Legoland Windsor many times, but never inside the hotel. I have to say it is amazing – there is LEGO everywhere you look! Hubby was most impressed with the colourful urinals (MEN!) and everything was spotlessly clean.
We booked in to the event and as we were early got to head into the park for an hour. If you have been to Legoland before you will know it is always busy………..we walked straight onto Atlantis with no queuing! If you have children that are below school age then I highly recommend visiting out of high season as you will get to see and do much more!
Atlantis is a LEGO submarine ride where you can immerse yourself in a magical underwater adventure. It is great fun seeing sharks and rays swim past the windows as you move through the attraction. It doesn’t end when you get off the submarine either as there are tanks you can climb inside and even an area where you can meet sea creatures close up.
Next up was the Dino Safari ride. The kids loved it although I was a little concerned by the big sign warning of a parent eating spider!
We had a little more time before the DUPLO event started and managed to squeeze in a ride on the train and a spin on the carousel. Eliza and Isaac picked the teacup like seat and insisted on spinning me as fast as they could!
After my head finished spinning we headed back to the Legoland Hotel ready to play all things DUPLO.
The room was set up with large tubs of DUPLO, bean bags, rugs, a colouring area and even face painting. The kids got stuck in straight away – Eliza heading for the Ice Cream sets whereas Isaac took a shine to the Jake and the Neverland Pirate sets and Sebastian bonded with a car!
Isaac and Eliza both got their faces painted…..
but the highlight for both Isaac and Eliza was the green screen where they got to make their models come to life!
We had lunch and played for a couple of hours before heading back out into the park to explore some more. The new DUPLO water park which was opened last year looks amazing and I cannot wait to take the kids back in the summer to try it. I think the kids had water on their minds as they insisted on going on the boats.
Isaac insisted on driving and was a little speed demon – he overtook three other boats on our way around the lake. It was then time for hubby to get his geek on and explore the Star Wars exhibit.
I think he must have photographed every display at least twice – the little ones preferred meeting the life-size LEGO models though.
We the headed to the main shop to buy Kian a present as he was at school and missed out. Hubby spotted these amazing superhero capes and at £7.99 we just had to have them.
I think every theme park should have their own Super Heroes – there were no complaints about walking now! They ran, flew and danced their way around the rest of Legoland before settling down to watch Captain Birdsnest fight the Red Pirate for the precious golden LEGO treasure.
I am not sure the show has changed at all in ten years, but they enjoyed the acrobatics and slapstick fun whilst the good pirates fought the bad pirates.
Sadly it was then time to head home. I stopped to feed Sebastian whilst the kids had one final play in the park before the long journey home.
We will definitely be back to Legoland later in the year, this time with the older ones in tow as they are launching a whole new Pirate area later this month.
Lovely pictures! We have fond memories of the hotel, which is fabulous, and Laser Raiders! My eldest was our biggest Lego fan undoubtedly 🙂
What a lovely day! We went to Legoland yeaaaaaaaaars ago now – 2004 or ’05 I think it was! It was a great day out, especially for younger children. Duplo is fab for little hands – love the ice-cream set! I’ve seen a burger set too that I might splash out for for my baby niece!
Looks like so much fun! We are not far away but I have never been. Maybe when Baby is older x
We love Legoland and visit every year!

Oh wow – your kids must think their Mum is as cool as Santa! Love Legoland, can’t wait to go back with kids a bit older.
