PARENTS NERVOUS KIDS EDUCATION HAS DETERIORATED THIS SUMMER

– Over half of parents are nervous about their children going back to school, according to research –
Over half of parents (59 per cent) fear that their child’s education has slipped over the summer and are nervous about the new term, according to research by the leader in educational entertainment for children.
The study of 2,000 parents conducted by LeapFrog reveals that 22 per cent of parents are most nervous about going back to school because they fear other parents will want to compare their child’s educational performance to theirs. Almost a fifth (18 per cent) are vying for their child to be the most advanced in their class.
A further 22 per cent worry that their kids will not enjoy school if they feel like they are behind in education, and 16 per cent dread being judged by the teacher for not doing enough educational activities throughout the summer.
With the new term just around the corner, LeapFrog is encouraging parents to pledge to spend 20 minutes a day doing educational activities with ‘The LeapFrog Summer School’.
The online school, available on the LeapFrog UK Facebook page (www.facebook.com/LeapFrogUK), offers a wealth of fun reading and writing ideas and activities for children, as well as daily tips by independent educational expert and editor of The Good Schools Guide, Janette Wallis.
Wallis comments: “Research shows that most children slip back academically in the summer holidays. Some parents lack confidence in educating at home, but for others it is inspiration and practical activity suggestions that are going to make a difference. LeapFrog recognises parental concerns on education and through The LeapFrog Summer School, parents can ensure their kids are raring to go come September.”
LeapFrog has also launched the LeapReader to help children to learn at home. The break-through learn-to-read and write solution is aimed at four to eight year olds, and combines three unique experiences in one electronic device – Learning to Read, Learning to Write and Learning Through Listening. It is the ideal tool to keep little active minds topped up out of school hours and to build confidence in reading and writing. LeapReader offers over 100 ‘learning experiences’, from books, audio books, flash cards, maps, learn to write sets, music albums and trivia challenges.
