Harry Paye Day – Poole Quay – 15th June 2013

Harry Paye Day is an annual event staged by the Pirates of Poole every June to celebrate the town’s most famous Pirate.

This year was no exception and although we were disappointed by the absence of a tall ship, we weren’t surprised as it was extremely windy.

The event happens on Poole Quay and there were as many spectators in Pirate Costume as there were in civvies.  There were stalls, fairground rides, bands and a colourful procession – all which made for a lovely day out.  Unfortunately the Pirate boat race had to be cancelled because of the weather.

The kids didn’t enter the fancy dress competition this year as all our costumes were in the loft, but they all had an element of “Pirate” about them – Isaac had a hook and skull & cross bones t-shirt and Eliza had her Skull & Crossbones Tutu to wear.

The procession was filled with Pirates, Vikings and even Storm Troopers as well as marching bands, majorettes and floats.

The only part of the day the little ones didn’t like was the Musket firing as they were very noisy, but otherwise they loved getting involved in all the activities.

It really was lovely seeing the length some people went to with their costumes, and we even saw a buggy made to look like a Pirate Ship (with a dog inside).

  1. Poole Quay looks like the place to be for Harry Paye Day. What a great way to celebrate and it looks like a real family event for everyone. I get a real sense of fun from your photos and it looked like everyone turned out to enjoy the day despite the weather. Thank you for linking up to Country Kids.
