A New Years Walk

I do love to escape the house on New Years Day, and this year especially as the weather had been so wet and windy that we had not really ventured outside the house for over a week.

The weather was beautiful, if a little chilly, so we headed down to Bournemouth beach to blow the Christmas cobwebs away.

We got down to the beach at about 11am and I couldn’t believe how busy it was.  It is hard to tell from the photograph, but the promenade was heaving, so we decided to venture onto the Pier instead.
Eliza has never really taken much notice of the pier before – normally choosing to run ahead and enjoy some freedom, this time however she was fascinated watching the waves roll onto the beach through the cracks in the planks.

After laying there for what felt like forever, they turned their attention to the surfers who were bobbing about in the sea, awaiting their perfect wave.

Rather them than me – it was 6 degrees according to my car thermometer, even if it did look like summer!!

We watched in awe as some of the surfers managed to stand up on their boards, and chuckled at the ones that promptly fell off (not that I could do any better).

We got to the end of the Pier and discovered that the rides which are there in the summer had been removed, which the kids weren’t too impressed with, so we ventured back down the other side and this time watched the Paddle Boarders in action…….

Posed for a silly photo…….

and ventured back towards the Gardens, where we did some bird spotting in the Aviary and practiced our balancing on the abandoned  wooden benches!

There really is nothing like a stroll by the beach, even in the winter!!
