Love2Shop………or Not!

It is just a few days now until we go away and I am busy checking off my to-do list.

I have organised the house and cat sitter, cleaned the house from top to bottom so it’s not a tip when we return, cancelled the milk and printed off all our travel documentation.

The one thing I needed to do was get Kian some holiday clothes, but as a growing young man I needed to take him with me to make sure I got the correct size.

Kian doesn’t do shopping in any shape or form, well maybe if it’s gaming related, so dragging him around looking for clothing was always going to be a challenge, so I had to be prepared.

I had a Love2Shop voucher I had saved to help to buy clothing for our holiday and made a list of shops that accepted it before we left. Now Bournemouth doesn’t have a great range of shops to choose from and our options were limited to GAP and River Island, but a ‘3 for 2’ offer on all sale items in GAP swung our choice.

The plan was to get in, choose some shorts and trousers and get back out again as fast as possible. Thankfully, as Kian is a small size they had a fair amount of choice left so we found 3 pairs of shorts and a pair of jeans relatively quickly. As he, very reluctantly, tried them on in the changing room, I went back out into the store and selected some shorts and t-shirts for Hubby too.

I worked out that my shopping spree, which included 6 pairs of shorts, a pair of jeans and 2 t-shirts came to just below our card balance of £100 – perfect.

We got to the till and the assistant rang the items through, kindly making sure that we got the best deal on the ‘3 for 2’. The problems started when it came to payment and upon being handed our Love2Shop card she called a manager over as she wasn’t sure how to process the payment – no problem I thought, it happens all the time when you don’t get different payment types presented often.

The Manager looked at the card and said those immortal words “I am sorry, we don’t accept these

After dragging Kian shopping, using my best persuasion techniques to get him to try the clothes on we had chosen, this wasn’t the phrase I wanted to hear.

The manager went on to explain that they accept the paper Love2Shop vouchers, but not the card ones as they have no way of processing them through the till.

Embarrassed and a little annoyed I had no choice but to leave our shopping at the till and start the whole rigmarole again, only in River Island. Sadly for us though, they didn’t have a sale on so I had to buy full price items and Hubby missed out on some new clothes for our holiday.

Has this happened to you?

  1. oh how awful, if I ever have shopping vouchers I always go to the till first and ask if it’s ok to spend them there just in case…yes, it has happened to me before! I also have a child that doesn’t ‘do’ shopping so I really understand your pain x

  2. Oh no, that is so annoying! Fair play to you for leaving the things and going somewhere else though, how many people would then pay for them feeling as though they should. It is really poor that they can’t accept them if they say they can. With today’s technology I think it is really poor that they can’t take the cards

  3. I would be so embarrassed, even if it wasn’t my fault. This happened to me before but with small items so to avoid the embarrassment I just paid fully. It happened at McDonalds actually, when their vouchers did not include shops with a drive thru, which was written with impossible to read letters.

  4. Love2Shop is a pain for this as if you have vouchers you obviously cant spend them online so you would automatically choose a gift card if buying as a present not realising you cant spend them in store x

  5. Oh no!! What a pain!! I have never used Love2shop vouchers but I have had the same happen with Luncheon vouchers. They give a whole list of places you can use them to eat on the back but some branches are concessions and won’t take them. It’s always embarrassing to find that out when it comes to settle the bill!!
