How To Create A Multifunctional Bedroom For Kids

Kids are notorious for changing their minds and personal tastes from one minute to the next, so deciding on how to decorate their bedroom can often seem like a daunting task. But it’s all part of growing up, and part of the fun of discovering who they are and what they are interested in. These ever-changing interests don’t necessarily mean that creating their space has to be expensive. Here’s how to create the perfect space that grows with your child and their hobbies.

Choose timeless furniture

Don’t be sucked in by all the picturesque nursery items on offer when you have young ones, as these will only be quickly outgrown and in need of an upgrade. By investing in sturdy timeless furniture, such as a full size double or single bed rather than a child size, not only will it be a piece that you can keep in your home for years to come, but it also comes in handy if you have guests to stay –  and is perfect for sleepovers! Divan Beds Centre offer a multitude of suitable options that also provide that extra storage space that comes in handy with growing kids and their ever-expanding arsenal of toys!

Keep things neutral

Kids change their favourite colour as often as they change their outfit, so expect them to be wanting to change the colours of their room pretty often as they grow up. One way to avoid this is to choose a neutral colour for the main elements of the room, Then they can inject their own personality through wall hangings and accessories instead. Pick paint colours that are warm and inviting but adaptable to their surroundings and flooring that’s going to be timeless yet still have staying power, like a laminate flooring that can be spruced up with a new rug every now and again. Maybe even have one feature wall and look to swap this around as their tastes change.

Make it multipurpose

Choosing multipurpose furniture can really help to open up a room if space is at a premium. Invest in a bunk with a desk underneath to provide a private study space, or benches that serve as reading spots as well as clothing and accessory storage options, or even foldaway desks that can be easily packed down to provide a play area when necessary.

Unleash their personality

Sending the kids to their room shouldn’t have to be a punishment if it’s a space they enjoy being in the first place. Weave in a little of their personality to their surroundings to make it feel like a space they want to spend time in! Are they into drawing? Install a white board wall where they can go crazy with colouring for hours on end without making a big mess. Is dressing up more their thing? Drill in some quirky coat hooks in a corner of the room to hang up their favourite costumes for easy reach. These can always be filled in later if no longer needed with minimal effort. Small tweaks can make a big difference and help your child find their creative side.

  1. Great post! If you’re working as digital marketing, the prospect of going out on your own and setting up your own agency can seem tempting. You really help with the process. Thanks

  2. Thanks a lot for writing this amazing post. I think every kid should have a room where they can spend good time. That should be a place where kids like to be and enjoy themselves. This also develops a sense of well being in a kid and more appreciative of home life and family. One thing I would suggest parents is that they should not necessarily go with something fancy or expensive, anything with good colors and contrast is just fine.
