Charlie Brown and Snoopy: The Peanuts Movie

Growing up in the 1970’s, yes I know I don’t look old enough, we were not lucky enough to have the 100’s of channels to choose from that we have today, but I remember the children’s programs we did have fondly.

My favourites included Jamie and his Magic Torch, Rainbow, Roobarb and Custard, Bagpuss and Snoopy. I even had a snazzy reversible jumper with one giant Snoopy one side and lots of little Snoopy’s on the other. Fast forward a fair few years and we have had the Bagpuss and Roobard and Custard resurgence already and now it is the turn of that cute black and white beagle, Snoopy.

Snoopy loved to fantasise about being various characters and my favourite just had to be the World War I Flying Ace who valiantly engaged in aerial combat with his nemesis, the Red Baron.

Snoop’s creator, Charles Schulz, said of his most famous character “Snoopy’s whole personality is a little bittersweet. But he’s a very strong character. He can win or lose, be a disaster, a hero, or anything, and yet it all works out. I like the fact that when he’s in real trouble, he can retreat into a fantasy and thereby escape.

Alongside Snoopy, his friends Charlie Brown, Lucy, Linus, Woodstock and the rest of the beloved “Peanuts” gang are back in their big-screen debut and have been dragged into the 21st century and recreated in 3D animation and we set up a movie night in the boys bedroom, complete with popcorn.

I was really impressed that the characters still looked like they did back in the cartoons I loved as a child, only a little brighter and with a clearer picture. Of course the kids had no idea of my past with Snoopy and just enjoyed the film for what it was.

Eliza’s favourite part was Charlie and the little red-haired girl becoming friends, Isaac loved Snoopy taking to the skies to pursue his arch-nemesis, the Red Baron and Sebby liked the snow!

Charlie Brown and Snoopy: The Peanuts Movie is out now and available in all good retailers.

  1. Did you ever use to read the comic strip in the newspaper? Or watch the cartoon really early in the morning? Sorry Charlie Brown bring back some very fond memories for me. xx

  2. I have not seen Charlie Brown and Snoopy: The Peanuts Movie yet but I totally plan to. We will probably buy it on DVD and have the movie experience at home. I think my kids would enjoy it. I always liked watching it when I was a kid and they tend to like throwbacks.

  3. My mummy is an 80’s child but still loved Snoopy and had a bedspread! I hope they do the film justice, I’m sure they will 😉 Sometimes you can’t beat the original!

  4. I do remember watching Snoopy but it wasn’t one of my favourites, I was a late 70’s child so I think I just missed it. I haven’t seen the movie yet either but I would like to watch it with the children. We watched Angry Birds this morning and loved it 🙂
