Lonely Planet Book Review

This month Lonely Planet Kids published four new travel books – You Rule, The Travel Book, Adventures Around the Globe and How to become an International Spy and we were lucky enough to be sent a copy of each to review.

The Travel Book is a book that most suits my inquisitive boy Isaac (7) as it covers every country in the world with amazing facts on sports, wildlife, how people live, their fabulous food and a wide range of quirky insights on every page. With a mix of stunning photography and beautiful illustrations, every country is brought to life before your eyes.

We have been busy researching all the places we are going to visit on our upcoming cruise next year. We are a little disappointed not to be going to Italy in February as we would love to see the Battle of the Oranges, where they import 57,000 crates of oranges to Ivrea, divide themselves into 9 teams (of thousands) and have a food fight for 3 days!

Lonely Planet Kids

How to be an International Spy is also right up Isaac’s street and is aimed at children aged 8 and over, although I may have spied the teen having a nose when we weren’t looking too.

What boy doesn’t want to join the cool secret world of spies? In this book you will rise through the ranks from recruit to secret agent, learning a host of skills to put into covert operation immediately. Get the scoop on some of the biggest agencies in the world, discover the coolest gadgets out there, crack some fiendish codes and lots more.

For children who have an ambition to rule the world then You Rule is for them as they can design a completely new nation from scratch.

Decide on the laws, choose your borders, make your flag, attract loyal citizens and lots more. You’ll get to create, organise, govern and judge. You can be king, queen, big chief, emperor, president, dictator or whatever you decree. Includes fun projects to complete, bold full-colour illustrations and fascinating facts about the world’s micronations. Get ready to claim your throne, because right here, right now, you rule!

Lonely Planet Kids
Adventures around the Globe is aimed at younger readers like Eliza. It is a special edition Atlas which takes you on a non-stop tour of the continents, adding fun and humour along the way.

Introducing each continent in turn with a beautifully illustrated map and then delving deeper into some of the most iconic sights. Eliza loves to add stickers and colour to the stunning scenes. Make sure you look out for the fold-out surprise – a 3D model of the globe to make, cherish and track your globe-trotting adventure.

Lonely Planet Kids

All these books would make perfect stocking fillers as they all retail under £20. Our favourite book is the Travel Book as we have already used it to help Isaac with his school project on Egypt and I can see it is going to be one that is used to help with homework frequently.

Fancy owning all these books in time for Christmas? Check out my giveaway here!

  1. These books sound brilliant. My step son is 10 and I think some of those would be right up his street. Especially the spy one. He loves things like that. Great review.
