BRITAX KING II ATS Review

I love our Britax Trifix car seat and am happy that Sebastian is safe and comfortable on our travels as it nice and secure in my car using the isofix feature.

Now Britax have launched its latest Group 1 belted seat, the KING II ATS, to help parents travel with greater confidence and keep their eyes on the road ahead. The advanced seat, suitable for children aged 9 months – 4 years (9kg- 18kg) actively watches over a child throughout their journey thanks to a revolutionary safety system that checks, adjusts and monitors the harness tension automatically.

We were sent the KING II ATS to review and have installed in hubby’s car as we had been using Isaac’s old car seat which had seen better days.

What I like about the KING II ATS is that not only is it super simple to install in the car, but it features an intelligent light and sound indicator that helps us parents ind the correct harness tension before we set off in the car. A green light and sound alert reassures parents their children are secure and harnessed correctly and this was a really handy tool when we first installed the carseat as we did it wrong at first!

KING II ATS

Sebastian is a bit of a pickle when trying to put him into a car seat and wriggles around, or goes rigid when we attempt to strap him into his car seat, meaning the harness might not necessarily be as tight as it should be from the offset. However, KING II ATS features a unique Active Tensioning System (ATS), which automatically adjusts and retracts the slack in the child’s harness to keep tension just right throughout the journey.

Alerts: Informing parents of any issues

As a final safety feature for parents, KING II ATS also features an intelligent warning system that alerts parents with a sound and light indicator if the harness is undone or no longer at the correct tension because the automatic retraction system might be at the end of its working range and cannot compensate any additional slack in the harness. The seat will sound an alert and flash a red warning light, indicating the parent should check the harness when it’s convenient to pull over.

This clever combination of checks, combined with the patented tensioning system for easy installation with the car’s 3-point seat belt, gives families the freedom they need to travel together safely and parents the confidence to keep their eyes on the road.

KING II ATS

The innovative KING II ATS also features:

  • Deep, softly padded full side wings which provide optimum Side Impact Protection for your child
  • Height-adjustable headrest and harness with easy single-handed adjustment which allows the seat to grow with your child without the need to remove and re-thread the harness
  • Batteries inside the Light System are included with the seat and expected to last for the full product life time (approx. 7 years) under normal consumer usage

I have to admit that since we bought a car with ISOFIX points I had insisted that we install car seats with the ISOFIX fittings as I thought they’d be safer, but I love the safety features on this one and I am more than happy that Sebby is comfortable and safe.

The KING II ATS is now available exclusively from Mothercare at RRP £180 in Black Thunder.

  1. My boys would all appreciate the soft padding – but I love the safety alert feature. My middle son is an expert at fiddling and has unpopped his before. This would be amazing!

  2. This car seat seems to have all the safety features one would look for in safe car seats. I noted that it’s also got Active Tensioning System (ATS), which adjusts and retracts the slack in the child’s harness to keep tension just right throughout the journey. To me this is quite important as the child need to be safe as well comfortable.

  3. That looks like a great seat. I always make sire we buy the best seats we can, as my kids are my most precious cargo. In fact the boys still have high backed boosters at 10 and 8!

  4. I may get sad that I don’t have any babies anymore but I don’t miss struggling with a car seat, they are always so big and bulky. I am sure this one is great though. Your little one looks very comfy. 🙂

  6. We need to buy new car seat. Our current one will be too small in a few weeks time (head is almost at the limit). I started to look into it but there is so many things to consider and I am so confused 🙁
I will take a closer look at KING II ATS.
