Just the two of us

Today is our 9th wedding anniversary and I have to admit I have not planned anything special as all funds have been exhausted with all the birthdays in the last month.

Last night hubby had a grumble that we never do anything together……..just the two of us.  We always have at least one child in tow and love days out with the family, exploring where we live.

The last time we went out as a couple was 18 months ago to The Print Room – I think he has a point!

For my 40th, hubby has bought us a romantic balloon flight – perfect for some us time, although we will be sharing the basket with 6 other couples.

Getting out as a couple is a challenge for us.  We still have two children who are not at school and babysitters cost a fortune these days.  There is no more bunging a teenager £5 and telling them to help themselves to whatever is in the fridge. Babysitters charge more than I charge as a childminder – how does that work?

Even chilling out on the sofa with a glass of wine is a thing of the past these days, as the teens stay up longer than I do!!

How do you make sure you spend quality time with your partner?

  1. Myself and hubby usually work opposite each other and may only get around an hour together in an evening, if we’re lucky. We try to make time at the weekends when it’s easier to stay up later watching TV etc. Rarely do we go out just us though.

  2. A very happy anniversary! And I do hope you get to have some just the two of you time soon…the only time hubs and I get the chance is when my son goes to his dad for the weekend, which can be sporadic depending on his dad’s shift patterns.

I have no good advice – esp when the kids stay up later – I know on a weekend sometimes I’m in bed before the boy is even tired!!

  3. Happy Anniversary! Its really hard to find time as a couple. It costs us £20-30 for a few hours babysitting so we can barely afford to go out after that cost! x

  4. We were having the exact same conversation last night. So difficult to get quality time together as the kids get older and you have both ends of the spectrum! Hope you find a way to celebrate. Happy anniversary x x

  5. Happy Anniversary! Love the wedding picture (you should share your wedding in my wedding feature!). We only have only one child but we still never get time to be just the two of us x

  6. We are rubbish at carving out time for just us. I think the best times we have together to just talk is on long car journeys: No distractions, kids sleeping in the back, so we get to talk.
I think the only way to get couple time is by scheduling it. Organise sleepover for kids & a friend or family to stay at yours for the little ones.

  7. Happy anniversary! It’s so hard to get out as a couple and we tend to forget to make some time for ourselves. We planned on doing it monthly but have forgotten for the past 8 months or so.

  8. We have no family near us and haven’t been out in over 4 years. Family time is precious though and I know before long they’ll be off to Uni and I’ll miss these days!

  10. Happy anniversary! I deffo think you need to do something to celebrate. It’s normally the woman having a grumble that we never do anything, it’s rare for a man to do! x

  11. Me and my partner find it difficult to find time alone due to the fact he works evening shifts. We tend to spend weekends as a family which is nice but we would love a date night 🙂 x

  12. We tend to do the hour drive to my folks house and let F have a sleep over at least once every two weeks so we can go out together and enjoy ourselves. x

  13. Happy 9th Anniversary! I know what you mean about just being a couple. Our families do not live near us and most of our friends also have babies so it is hard to ask them to babysit. We don’t have a nanny or sitter and we rarely get out on a date night. Things get so hectic with 2 little ones that both me and my husband forgot our 3rd anniversary! This year it better not happen! haha

  14. Aww this is sweet and I totally get what you mean about Teens. It’s much harder to have a relationship when kids are older as like you say, they are always up late!!!! Buggers!! We don’t go out much either. What a lovely present, hope you have fun in the balloon.. so exciting! Happy anniversary xx
