Marwell Sunset Party in the Park

We were invited to Marwell’s Sunset Party in the Park and on June 13th, which sees the park open to the public from 6.30pm – 9.30pm.

As it was a Friday night I didn’t mind changing the kids bedtime routine as seeing the animals at dusk is a real treat and they are so much more active than they are in the day.

We arrived as it opened and enjoyed a talk about the Penguins.  I never did find out why one was wearing his very own wetsuit though.

This year’s event also had a Dinosaur twist where we had out of hours access to the Rise of the Dinosaurs event which Isaac and Eliza adored.  We were on a mission to find animatronic dinosaurs that were scattered around the park.   They were very lifelike, with movement, eye blinks and even sounds.  Isaac got to work one for himself as there was a velociraptor on display that had workable controls.

There was a range of incredible performances and entertainment which included giant penguins and pigeons and a whole host of animal talks which ran at various times of the evening.  There was also an inflatables area where the kids could bounce off some energy, a BBQ area which pleased hubby who had come straight from work and even Juggling Inferno!

The animals were in a really playful mood this time of the day and we watched as a tiger gave an amazing demonstration of ball skills, the Lemur’s who swung on and off their ropes and were delighted by the snow leopard cubs who were in a very feisty mood.

Don’t worry if you missed it as there is another opportunity to go to the Sunset Party in the Park on 5th July, which sees even more amazing sights added to the bill including The Gorilla’s and their comic intrepid explorer friend.  See here to book tickets.

  1. How wonderful to be able to visit after hours and see the animals activity and behaviour. It sounds like there was plenty for the children and adults alike with a great party atmosphere. Thanks for linking up and sharing your great photos with Country Kids.

  2. We are planning a visit this summer, the dinosaurs were the bit that totally sold us- I knew Syd would love the animals, but chuck in Dinos and he will be a very happy boy!

  3. Ralph wears a wet suit every summer. He has a skin condition and he loses his feathers really early and quickly so the wet suit keeps him warm and helps him swim.
